I liked the "feel" of my truck better when I converted my Edge to a Gryphon and got custom tunes. And, I'm certain I gained about 0.5 mpg in economy too.
I don't think the difference between "canned" and custom tunes is as big as the difference between "canned" and stock. However, there was enough of a difference that I'm glad I did the conversion. When mine was converted,
PHP was charging $50.00 per tune. We immediately took a 2400 mile trip towing our trailer. I calculated that I saved about $45 in gas on that trip, so the tune was almost paid for.
