i am filling out the order form for the FU chip and it askes what my desired idle RPM is. what is a good one to choose? i have a 97 psd

Stock. If it's fine where it is, then you don't need to put anything.

If you think it should be a bit higher or lower, you can let us know.

is between 500 and 600 a good idle then?

Depending on the PCM code, the idle can vary a bit. Most are set at about 580 when warm. You can probably just leave that field blank.
