Default Installing unit - stuck on Connecting to Bridge

so I'm finally getting around to installing my unit for the first time. I follow the instructions on the book. I plug in the cord and the display stays on "Connecting to Bridge" Please wait....

Anyone know what the problem may be? Going on a trip and would really like this bad boy to work.

Help?

following the instructions on the book, straight outta the box, I plugged the device into the ODBC port of the truck, then it stayed on the "connecting to bridge Please wait..." screen.
