Default Smokeless performance tune?

Is it possible to get "140hp" or "100hp/120hp" withought all the smoke? I like the power, and I do like the smoke most of the time. But sometimes I'd like to be able to drive around with the performance without people waving at me with one finger.

Just curious because I was watching that Banks Sidewinder on youtube the other day and they say it doesn't make any excess smoke because it burns all the fuel they put in it.

5 minutes....patience, young grasshopper.

More power takes more fuel. Simple as that.

Without the airflow, it's just going to smoke.

Run the 100P tune and you'll get the same power with a little less smoke on the bottom.

The 120 and 140 HP tunes for the 7.3L cannot fuel any more than the 100 up top.........and the injectors cannot supply enough fuel for more than about 100 or so HP above stock. The higher-hp tunes simply overfuel on the bottom end.

I posted on the wrong thread...didn't know how to delete it so I just dotted it out.

I get it now. There is less boost on bottom end to help burn the extra fuel. Boost picks up and smoke goes away. Thanks

Not to mention that Gale Banks Engineering likes to use ridiculous amounts of nitrous oxide as well........

That stuff clears up smoke nicely.

Yea I know, I've seen peolpe swerve to miss some smoke. Like its gonna hurt them or their car to go through it. They'ed rather my a stunt driver move to miss some smoke and take a bigger chance wrecking.

I'll be smog testing my truck this week since it's due in order to renew my registration this month. My goal is over 300 rwhp on stock injectors and stock HPOP, and still pass Colorado emissions with the same tune.

Results will be posted, win or lose.

Well, good news is I passed emissions. And surprisingly, I passed with flying colors. In fact, the numbers were slightly better than last year running on a bone stock tune.

Bad news is the guys at the shop were too backed up to let me make some dyno runs. So I have set up a session with them first thing Wednesday morning before they start getting customers in the shop.

Anyway, opacity numbers on the lug down test:

60 mph - 5% opacity
50 mph - 3% opacity
40 mph - 14% opacity
zero shift - 1% opacity

Last year the 60 mph opacity level was something like 10 or 12%, with the other numbers about the same.

This is with stock injectors, stock HPOP, regulated return, intake, exhaust, and 38R turbo. Guys at the shop were pretty impressed with how clean it ran and how much power it put out when they were driving it around the shop.
