Default Squeaky Belt?

I had my 6.0 back to the dealer to fix some stuff (still under the 30 day warranty) including a squeaky belt. They say the belt is "glazed". Can this be, or they just blowing smoke up my ? In the oasis report it says "Tensioner assembly drive belt replace" That was in Dec of '07. The dealer says they can put some belt dressing on it, but in 30 miles it will start squeaking again. BS or truth?

Belt dressing on a serpentine belt is a no-no.

It will make way more noise then it did without it.

As far as the belt being "glazed", I'll believe it.

And if they offer to replace the belt, let them do it! Changing belts on a 6 ohh is NO fun.

Sounds about right, 1.8 hours labor (@$100hr= $180), and the belt retails for $89.76, so $270 just to change the belt (not including diagnostics).

It's probably the alternator pulley causing the sqealing. The grooves on the pulleys get worn out if it's been sqealing for awhile on a worn out belt. The teeth on the pulley get really sharp and worn down. If you put a new belt on it will just ruin it and it will be screeching again in no time.

1.8 hrs to do the belt? Just did one on our 05 at work and it took me 20 mins but I did have someone else to pull the tensioner and at least 15 mins were figuring out how it went on because the sticker was wrong on the truck.

I thought it was going to be a nightmare but once we figured out the picture was wrong on the rad support it wasn't as bad as I thought. Also to make it easier take the air deflector part off the fan shroud so you have more room to work.

I had the turbo out of the same truck and on the bench in 45 min with no cab lifting. Anyone remember how many hours the dealer charges for that?

I spend most of the year working on equipment that is an even bigger pain so pickup trucks aren't so bad.
