I have a 2008 f-150 supercab stx 4.6L 2wd. Thinking I might put a drop in K&N filter and a flowmaster exhaust dump. Will I need to get custom tunes or will it edge work out of the box?

Hi again - I think I just answered you in the "New Member" section. I KNOW the filter is no problem and I'm pretty sure the exhaust mod isn't either.

But, get a Gryphon! You won't be sorry.

It's OK, we all start somewhere. You've picked a GOOD forum to ask questions on. You're not going to get bashed or told to "do a search". You'll just get good, straightforward, honest answers. (Although we ARE biased toward Power Hungry Performance)! :giggle:

Jack's right about running the edge and the drop in.
Now I bet you'll be impressed by edge's canned tunes but get the gryphon with custom tunes and be really impressed.

Uh, Lars, he's talking about a drop in filter here, not a CAI. And, if it makes you feel any better, I made the same association once on f150Online and was "gently" corrected by another member, who I'm sorry to say is now "banned".

But the rest of your post is dead on! :thumbs up yellow:

Cross forum posting.
Used one question on f150online and another one here. http://www.f150online.com/forums/chips-tuners-programming/380289-performance-upgrades.html

And Jack, iridesuzuki also corrected me over there for missing the 4.6L.

It was your comment about f150online that got me to see it was the same user name and put 2+2 together.

No hard feelings

I didn't expect hard feelings from you Lars, but I did want to keep from confusing Texan22. I'd seen the post you referred to and thought that i.ride.suzuki was pretty mild in it. He CAN be fairly caustic in his responses, especially if he thinks people are talking about things from a position of ignorance.

But, I learned something about 4.6L engines and their MAF sensors that I didn't know. i.ride DOES seem to know what he's talking about.

Nice though that we're all giving Texan22 pretty much the same advice.

I have an '06 f150 4x4 5.4 bought the evo 3 months ago, and I'm not seeing the impact others have, Bill and I have spoken about this, he's a hell of a nice guy:thumbs up yellow:, I want to upgrade to gryphon and just use their stock tunes because the only upgrades I have are kn drop in and flowmaster muffler only, these stock tunes are better than evo stock, correct? :shrug:Or could I go into my evo myself and customize certain things like Std Shift, Timing, Torq, Not knowing really what I'm changing sounds like a mistake though:doh: any thoughts, anyone

Edge and Gryphons have the same canned tunes.
Or could I go into my evo myself and customize certain things like Std Shift, Timing, Torq, Not knowing really what I'm changing sounds like a mistake though:doh: You could go about doing the adjustments but it wouldn't be the full effect that custom tunes could offer. For example your slot 3 right now is a 93 performance canned tune. What if you could only had 87 oct available? You going to run slot 2 tow canned tune? It would be much better to run a 87 custom performance tune. These custom tunes wake the truck up even more! Some of our other members will post some other words of advice for you also! any thoughts, anyone

Lars pretty much covered it.

But, I sure noticed a difference when I first installed an Evo (that is now a Gryphon)! The slow downshifting when passing was gone and the upshifts were much quicker and more precise too. In addition, my fuel economy improved.

Then with custom tunes, I saw even more improvement.

Perhaps your custom option settings are not optimum. What values are you using there? And, look through this post on the Custom Options menu: http://dygytalworld.ehost-services139.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1101 What I wrote there applies to the Edge as well as the Gryphon.
