So the gas station closest to my house has 89 for the same price as 87 always. Am I correct to assume that I could see even better performance with an 87 tune by using 89 and bumping the timing up 1.0 like folks have done with 91/93?

Is everything E10 up there?

It would work, not sure about mileage or anything. I noticed a little more kick on the upper end of the power band when I would try it. Even before the programmer.

Everything is 10% ethanol? I thought it was supposed to be hard on the rubber parts. Or is that just the E85?

Supposedly up to 10% or so doesn't cause harm to anything. Based on that assumption lots of states in the upper midwest have adopted the E10 fuel as the standard. (mostly as a subsidy to the farmers and ethanol plants in the area)
I do like that premium fuel in WI is still 100% gas. My car gets 2-3 MPG better on that stuff than the crap I get in MN here.

In central texas you have to drive at least 40 miles to find a station that sells ethanol, and when you do it is only E85. So I've never run it, almost borrowed a gallon of a friend's jet fuel though. He'd go buy about 5 or 10 gallons at a time as an octane booster for his truck...on top of the 93 that he always ran. lol

Hey there longshot, I'm sure you meant 100 low lead av-gas. Jet fuel is more like kerosene, or diesel fuel and only used in gas turbine engines. By the way, it is very illegal to run av-gas in your vehicle, because it does still contain some lead......but man does it let you make the horse power.

he called it jet fuel, but yeah it was the av. I dont know where he got the money to buy that fuel and a new set of terra grapplers every 6 months, but he did. lol
no one checks tanks around here, not even on the tax free ag diesel.

Avgas is only 4 to 5 dollars a gallon......the tires are costing him much more than that. :yikes2:

yeah, he said it was about $5-6 per gallon but when you mix it rich with 93 and get about 7 mpg hot rodding all the time, the tires might not have been the bigger expense. lol

haha, yeah. got up to 1000 earlier and lost it 10 at a time, only making money with the bigger bets for some reason. but it doesnt bother me, every time I get built up there is some kind of change that knocks me back down to a few hundred. lol

My guess is if 89 is the same price as 87, then 89 is E-10, and 87 is straight gasoline.
PS, sorry we hijacked your thread with gambling shenanigans.

Did a tiny bit of looking into the E10, I wouldnt bump up the timing too much. they say .5 for every octane, I'd go .25 and adjust up in small increments from there. Most of the info I found looked like some of the characteristics of gas/ethanol were slightly lower mileage and higher heat emissions. Even found an actual study using about 15 different vehicles and monitoring lots of factors.
haha, I dont have a gambling problem in real life, just on this computer. I've won all kinds of useless stuff gambling. Most people just dont like using money.
...never really like video games anyway, I've always told people "I shoot real guns, and drive real cars". Was at a church party ONCE where we played paintball and Halo. Should have seen the look on this one kids face when I said "go ahead and shoot me with your laser, got a gun in my truck."(yeah I meant the paintball gun, shells are too expensive) LOL

No problem. I guess I'll just have to experiment a bit and see how it goes.

Maybe try what I mentioned earlier, increase timing .25 for every octane over normal then keep raising it until you think your close enough to the limit.

That's what I thought about the Twin Cities and E10!
Don't like putting that stuff in the bike when I ride up their. Try to make it into WI where I grew up to get the straight premium again.
I would probably only go .5 on the timing.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I'll start out running a few tanks on 87 first to build a basis for comparison and then maybe try the 89 and bump the timing by 0.5 and see if it makes a difference or not on anything noticeable.
I might have to drive the truck more often though or it'll take me forever to conduct this test!
