I HAVE actually modded my truck a bit, but not for performance (unless you count the Gryphon), and it's my favorite mod.

I installed a Ford Daytime Running Lights module, because I'm absolutely convinced these things could save our lives when driving on 2-lane country roads. It involved about an afternoon of dash dis-assembly and locating and splicing into wires, but the result is "perfect". They illuminate at 60% brightness and don't interfere with the automatic ON feature. I had to pull the steering wheel too, when it was time to reinstall the steering column housing, and that was a whole lot of fun!

I put in a Ford Magellan GPS. Very easy mod that replaces the "tray" in the middle of the dash and simply plugs into the radio harness with an included connector. (Almost as easy as installing a Gryphon).

I've installed a trailer brake controller for our towing needs. Screwed the unit into the dash plastic below and to the right of the steering wheel. Pretty simple and it works fine.

Replaced the interior lights and outside mirror puddle lamps with LEDs. I like the look a lot. The headlights are now Silverstars and the parking lamps are "stealth" bulbs.

Added a "Fire and Ice light bar" below the tailgate because I liked what I saw when I saw one in a parking lot one day. And having been rear-ended twice, I'm hoping to prevent a third time.

For appearance, I've added a lower honeycomb grill that complements the upper H-Bar grill and covers the ugly gaping hole down there. Installed a Lund bug deflector to keep rocks off the front of the hood. Molded mud flaps to help keep the dirt and mud off the sides (they work). The license plate lights are now LEDs too.

And, for utility, an A.R.E. bed cap. Keeps our stuff secure and dry when we go camping.

It's fun to "personalize" a vehicle, isn't it?

Or, you could put pictures in an album associated with your user profile (like I think I did. Can anybody see them besides me?) and that way they'd be seen only by people who were interested (or nosy) like me. :smiley_roll1:

The "PHPMobile," as Liam has christened our '05 Expedition has one modification -- a Gryphon programmer. And I must say how much I love the gauges, though I hate that my husband removes it from the truck far too often to test things.

Oh, and I also have a PHP decal, but that's not really a mod, is it? :hehe:

OH, and I also a very cool viny decal of Calvin peeing on three initials, but that's not really a mod either, is it? :smiley_roll1:

OH! and our license plate says, "WETUNEU" -- Liam's idea, too! Cool, even though it's not a mod.

Bill really wants to do some heavy mods as soon as we have some spare cash. I'm sure he'll chime in here when he has a minute. :)

I will have to get a picture of the PHPMobile on here soon, huh?

Waiting to see the PHP Mobile :coffee: and the plate, too cool :2thumbs: As far as the decals being mods, well, that may be pushing the mod envelope a little far but what the heck, they did modify and personalize the vehicle right? :D

Nice Mods:woot:

Hello Pullin fool.:howdy:......I dont know if it means much but I switched my headlight and foglight bulbs to the PIAA brand.......I live here in Salt Lake so we get extreme cold and extreme heat and I have not had any problems with them and I have had them for about 4 years........I dont know if you know but I was told when you change the bulbs with your bare hands the oil on your fingers stays on the bulb(finger print) .....and it cause uneven burn in the bulb with the gas and cause the bulb to burn out prematurely:cursin: ........just FYI ...hope it helps

It definately helps, it gets kinda disheartening spending the money and wondering how long it's gonna last:shrug:.......Im gonna check out those PIAA.... I actually didn't get a job at an electrical supply house when I was younger due to the interviewer handing me a halogen bulb and asking me to take it out of the box, so I did, He smiled and thanked me for my time...

SHEESH!! wonder if there's a flux capacitor behind the seat somewhere...

He probally didn't have the extra power to run one once he turned the lights on!

with 14 extra gauges what is he monitoring even with 2 egt gauges fuel, oil, volts, trans, boost, water, oil temp that is only 9 and I don't feel all of them are nessary plus 5 more. I like gauges I have 6 in my mustang and 3 in my truck but even I think those are exessive.

We have sure spent some coin on our trucks, haven't we?:D

Okay. mine was bought to haul and tow, and I bought her new in May of '98 just as the Super Duties were arriving in town.

1) Tymar intake, complete with Dondalson filter and Magic Smoke Performance Prefilter.
2) Beans D-66 Turbo, 3 inch ceramic coated Hypermac d.p. into a "free flowing 4 inch exhaust.
3) Pillar Ultralites gauges, and a Terminator Scan Gauge.
4) Terminator modded gen 3 17* HPOP -----(HUGE IMPROVEMENT)
5) Built E4OD with ATS lifetime billet converter, Tru-cool 42k trans cooler.
6) Banks Intercooler kit ---------(BIG IMPROVEMENT for OBS trucks)
7) Off-Road unlimited Shackle reverse kit---big ride improvement.
8) Arrowcraft dual rear wheel conversion Kit, Alcoa wheels..love 'em.
9) Pure-Power lifetime billet oil filter, expensive but worth it.
10) Mag Hytec trans pan and rear diff cover.
11) PHP Flex F.U. 2 chip w/burner....(HUGE IMPROVEMENT).
12) Firestone Ride Rite air bags with on board compressor and dash gauge w/controls. Great for levelling the truck, and levelling thecamper when it is on.
13) Rancho 9000's all the way around, adjusted to 1 for daily driving and 9 when we load up the Arctic Fox 990 cabover.
14) DIY converter lock and exhaust brake used for slow-going in a canyon on the way to the lake.
15) Tork-Lift superhitch w/32 inch extension to tow toyhauler or whatever behind truck with camper on.
16) Tork-Lift camper tie downs.
17) Way too much money tied up in stereo gear, then the comms and other stuff on a overhead shelf.
18) Silverstar headlight bulbs
19) Prodigy brake controller

The items that have made the biggest performance improvements, in no particular order..

Intercooler- You simply cannot tow heavy without one, unless you are content at crossing Donner pass at 20 MPH. This mod lets you use the power made by the PHP Chip.

PHP Flex chip. I had a chip tune by Bill way back when, and thought it was great. This new stuff is amazing.

We just installed the modded Terminator HPOP a week or two ago. For all of you gys out there running a chip in an OBS, add "More ICP" to your list of things to do. This one item will bring your chip to life, my truck is a different animal. There is a reason they left the 15* pump behind when the Super duties came out and went to the 17*

This is where my truck stands now. I am pleased with it right now, but I am contemplating 160cc AC injectors for next year.

Actually I am working on a set of exhaust manifolds that will include 5 EGT probes on each and ceramic coated. Modified up pipes that will be coated also with the hot side of the turbo coated. I will have 2 gauges, left and right, and a selector switch to be able to check each cylinder when I want.

Wed, October 21st, 2009, 02:41 PM
Chuck,

One though on your EGT arrangement. Keep in mind that thermocouples are EXTREMELY sensitive (working on microvolts) and any change in resistance in the circuit can cause a change in output. Gauges are calibrated with the length of the leads in consideration and even the type of metal used for the connections. Even if you don't change the length, adding a switch or even another set of connections can skew the EGT readings of the gauge significantly.

Just wanted you to be aware. :2thumbs:
