Im getting a late refund check back from school for my finacial aid. I already paid of school so i get the whole 3 grand. im tring to figure out how to spend some of it. what would you do? performance or looks. if i go performance its going to be a little cheaper i want troyers underdrive pulley kit plus what ever programmer i can get with custom tunes. if i go looks i want to get the Ram Air Hood with active hood, with a crome grill. dont know if i want an aftermarket grill or the chome grill's that come stock from ford(i have the black plastic one right now).

Seriously:
Pay down any debt first then think about mods.

I'd put it in the bank - build my reserve fund.

well if i get the hood i going to need to get rid of my K@N and use their version of the CAI so i dont know about that. also troyer doesnt have the headers or electric fan so thats out of the question. Since i dont know what i will do with My CAI i might just wait on it i dont know yet.:sigh:

while im thinking about it. troyer said they dont have an electric fan because the 2010's came with them stock do you think i got install one of those and do you think it would be worth it(performance wise HP/MPG).

Put a grand into an emergency fund.
Then use the rest for performance upgrades.
2010's come with Electric fans?
Check under the hood?
If they do then leave the stockers alone.
Does troyer have the udps?
If they do go that route but a programmer may be needed to bump up the idle.
Just some thoughts.

Peace!:)

Thats what the guy at troyer told me is that they came stock with Electric fans. I have a 09 thats why i was asking if its worth putting a stock one from a 2010 in mine. (sorry should of said the year of my truck). Yes troyer does have the underdrive pulleys its the same as the 04-08 since its the same motor. Also im waiting to here from Bill's trip to utah to decide. If the gryphons available im ordering next week or as soon as possible if not im ordering the XCAL 3 as soon as possible (with custom tunes)

Oh yeah i wasnt planing on spending all of it i was planning on putting at least a grand back but if i go performance then should be a little bit more.

Really hard to do but....save as much as possible. With the extra, definately performance.

Performance, Baby! Looks can fade after time!

Oh, you were discussing trucks.

I'll just be quiet now. :hehe:

:hmmm: Hmm... my first question to you, martinoledad, would be: Are you currently happy with your truck's performance?

If so, spend the cash on making her look pretty. :)

When Billy told me about the 7.3L truck he's driving back from Utah, one of the first questions I asked was: "What color is it?" The second: "How many miles does it have on it?" The third: "What year is it?" The fourth: "Would that be an early or late 2001?" (I wanted to know if it has PMRs or not.)

In case you're wondering, we're having it painted a lovely shade of red (my favorite!) as soon as we can scrape together the money. :spend: Of course, he's already talking about making it a racing truck, so we're coming at you from two different camps. :giggle:

Not really. I guess im still use to my 07 Fx2 which took off like a mustang with it being lighter then this one. I drive like a normal person until some one makes me mad or going slow then i like to get my point across by blowing past them. I know the programmer as soon as i figure out which one im going to be able to get will help a lot but you can never have to much power.;). I wanted to turn that 07 into a project truck after college but wont be able to now.:cursin: but good luck with your all's new truck i was looking at some diesels before i seen the price of them when i got my 09.

Groovy chick- do you think that you will know if PHP will be able to release the gryphon by monday because if not i think im going to just order the XCAL 3.

Y'know what's just SO wrong?
Even though he's lost his hair, Billy still looks like himself even after 13 years together. I look at pictures of me and I just look OLD and TIRED. :oldlady: SO unfair. :giggle:
But I have a husband and two sons who tell me every day how pretty I am (Oh, how they LIE!), so I can't complain. :thumbs up yellow:

:hehe::rofl::smiley_roll1: THAT is funny! :2thumbs:

I went with looks and sound because I knew my truck would never be able to beat a 15 second 1/4 mile. (makes it in 16 which really suprised me :whistle1:)

But if you get a functional ram air hood that will give you a true CAI. I would say that the hood fits into both performance and looks category if thats the case. :thumbs up yellow:
I would stick with the stock black grill but then again I am biased, I actually liked that one on mine. But your talking about the blue '09 right? I dont really remember if you had another because I do remember that the other one got wrecked.

What kind of truck do you have?
I got an 04 F150 5.4L
I plan on getting mid 15s with just exhaust, intake, and gryphon...
I am probably low 16s right now with just exhaust and intake.

Then that thing would look sweeet with a ram hood if you got one that was square. I was looking at ram hoods for my truck but they were a little more than I can afford. :sigh:

I would go for the hood and save the leftover for the gryphon when they come out.
...then get the underdrive pulleys and grill upgrade. :D

I think im going to play it smart and get the underdrive kit and the programmer with custom tunes. save a little extra money. Ill save up for the hood maybe later in the summer or fall

but your plan is tempting.

Yeah, saving money is more important in times like these. Haha, I'm so tight on cash right now I've found ways to eat lunch or dinner for less than $3 each...and its with REAL food because I DO NOT skip meals. :eat:

I've got underdrive pulleys next on my list aswell. I'm just waiting for the gryphon to pay itself off a little more and for some decent cash flow to come my way.

does anybody know if the underdrive pulleys will hurt or help the Gas mileage. because i dont want them if its going to hurt. I dont see how it would but just wondering.

Longshot you are going to have to explain how you get meals for less then 3 dollars because i like to eat and save money. I also dont skip meals.

For the underdrive pulleys give 88Racing a shout. He installed a set on his not too long ago. I think his assesment was no change in mileage, minor gains in performance (considering the estimated 14 horses are at WOT) but a little bit quicker throttle response.

Well I guess I can share my little secret since your far enough away to not upset the balance of nature. For lunch I go get a sandwich at the local HEB which is $2.15 for a 6 inch sub and bring my own drink and side dish if I dont feel like getting a $.25 coke. I get it at about 7 am on my way to school so I am guranteed the pick of the sandwich crop...the early bird doesn't only get the worm but also the biggest, meatiest, yummiest worm. :D
I also do ALOT of cooking myself and that really cuts down on food expenses, plus I live on a river and I have connections for other kinds of meat. Make fun of me all you want but I can make a shad (yes, that ugly little fish you stick on a hook) taste as good as farm raised catfish, but our shad are also 14+ inches and I get them with a bow, spear or cast net.

Put it this way.
My truck had alot more balls in stock minus the shifting after I put them on.
As far as mpg increases? A wee bit better .1 to .4 mpgs.

Cheers!:)

Thanks, 88racing. so do you think they were worth the money. as far as the MPG every little bit helps expecially when you have a 35 gal. tank like me.

a couple more question about the pulleys did you do the install yourself.
-was it hard
-how long did it take

Scale 1-10
4 for difficlty.
Was it hard?
With impact tools it was easy.
With hand tools a bit more difficult.
You need to know how to use the fan wrenches to remove the fan clutch assembly. I just used my air chisle.
You need an harmonic balancer puller kit also.
Hardest part was getting the fan shroud in and out.
Time taken?
Approx 40-50 min. That was second attempt.

So overall did you think the underdrive pulley system was worth the money. When it was all said and done. also im going to have somebody put them on i dont have any of those fancy tools you mentioned

88Racing
Fri, April 16th, 2010, 02:20 AM
They definately gave my truck some more pep.
Then you combine them with custom tunes and it helps a little bit more.
The one thing I forgot to mention is that I do feel more of the a/c compressor when it kicks on+off.
You can get a balance puller and the fan removal tool at a parts store like autozone for free or for a rental fee.
But I can also understand not doing this mod also it can seem somewhat intimidating at least it was after my first attempt.
Take care.

I also am thinking of the underdrive pulleys, and the Efans as well, is there anyone that has done both? If i go through Troyer Performance it will cost about $700 for my 05 5.4 F-150 if i get both. So if i got just one which would be the best gains for the money? the fans are around $430 and the pulleys with the belt are about $260. Or if there are any improvements in that price range let me know! Thanks
