View Full Version : 2009-2010 Gryphon - when?

The previous thread on this topic seems to have stalled. When is the Gryphon expected for the 2009 - 2010 F150? It has been ~17 months since the initial dyno data and ~9 months since the Gryphon release was expected. If Edge is not planning to release the needed programmer to make the Gryphon in the near future, what else is recommended? (Is the Xcal3 from Breenspeed any good?)
1. Please give an update of when you will support the 2009-2010 F150 (5.4)
2. I would also like to know if you have any updated dyno info. The test from 01/2009 was at high elevation and 85 octane. A near-sea-level test with 93 octane would be nice to see.
Thanks.

you can get the SCT X3 for the 2009 F150 5.4. I have it and i love mine. I have custom tunes i just dont have all the gauges, its only a hand held programmer. But Still gave me alot more power.

Where did you buy it? Can you provide some more details on your experience? (HP Gains? MPG changes? Which tune do you use? Transmission behavior changes? Other?)
Thanks.

I bought it here at PHP. I dont have any dyno charts. Ive gained almost 2 MPG, i started using 91 performance but switched to 87 performance(due to gas prices), i feel that the transmission does act better since ive got my programmer and it does shift into second a little hard still but if you take off easy or give it a little gas it usally doesnt do it but i havent felt it down shift hard since ive gotten it.

I keep saying this, and I believe it! Edge desperately wants to put a programmer for 09-10 model trucks on the market! Every day they don't costs them money - BIG bucks, if potential customers buy different hardware.
I can only conclude that their beta testing has found rather serious problems in the implementation. When you're fooling around with several thousand vehicles on the road and potential lawsuits, you'd better have your confidence level at a comfortable high.
So, if you REALLY want a CS/CTS, stick around. Sometimes the wait is worth it.
Overall, I like the way Edge supports its customers and I really don't have to tell you how I feel about PHP, do I? I wouldn't be working with them in the forum if I didn't think that Bill, Corey and now Cody are the best! :thumbs up yellow: When I met them in person, it only reinforced that opinion.
In this case, I think Edge is maybe putting customer satisfaction/safety/reliability ahead of the almighty, quick buck. I'm glad - it tells me this is a company that's in it for the "long haul".

Thank you for the updates! If I didn't want THE BEST, I would have stopped waiting and bought something inferior.:thumbsdwn:
For now, I will patiently keep waiting, knowing I will be better off in the end. ;)

Last day of June. I know we just asked it like 2 days ago, but any hint from Edge on if they're gonna release today or tomorrow?

Someone on F150online.com posted that Edge is still in beta testing and they hope to release at the end of July.
While I'm as frustrated as everyone else, I'm glad Edge is taking their time to make sure the product is REALLY ready.

I've been watching PHP and the 09-10 F150 saga for nearly a year now. I've read all the reasons and personal notes and illness reports and vacation updates and wishful thoughts and preliminary dyno stats, etc...
I've been understanding and patient and hopeful and empathetic and... and... and..
Now all I've got to say is "BUNK"!!!! This is more like a ridiculous and childish soap opera than a business.
So... for any 09-10 F150 owners just showing up here...
SAVE YOURSELVES!!!!!
RUN AWAY!!!!

You realize that the SCT x3 is available for the 09-10 F150's. They are custom tunable and work great in my opinion. I got tired of waiting to for edge to release. They are the exact same thing except for the fact that i cant mount it in the dash and get it stolen(possibly).

Too bad you didn't bother to gather your facts before you posted your drivel.
The issue is NOT on PHP's doorstep. As stated above, Edge is still in beta testing and they haven't released the hardware to PHP.
Yes, it's been frustrating for all of us, but you're the only :censored1:hole to comment on the terrible year of family tragedies Bill and Cory have survived.
In other words, don't let the door hit you in the :censored1: on the way out.

FYI, we will NOT be allowed to update earlier Gryphons or Evos too '09s and '10s. :(
but can you officially sell the gryphon CS now? or do you still need to get their permission?

Hey Corey? You guys are now saying you can not upgrade the Gryphons from earlier models to work with the 09-10's? I held onto my Gryphon when I sold my 06 because I was told that it would be able to be updated to work with my 09. What now? It has been loaded with custom tunes that worked great with my old 06, but that truck and its buyer are long gone, as it was sold almost a year ago. Is it worthless now with these custom tunes on it? Please advise.

I dont know what Corey has to say, but you could always sell it to someone with an 04-08 F-150. worst case scenario of course :hmmm:

I thought about that, but it had 3 custom tunes that Bill had written specifically for that truck. Is there a way to restore it to the original "canned" Gryphon tunes? I think that's the only way I'll be able to sell it. It is unlocked (original truck was returned to stock before I pulled the Gryphon out.

Yes, you can certainly restore it to the canned tune status. All you have to do is connect it to Pegasus, and click on ->[Gryphon Updated Manager] and then let it install BOTH firmware and [U]calibration updates. The calibration updates will restore the canned tunes.
Your old custom tunes would not have worked on a newer truck anyway - Bill would have to totally re-write them, even if your programmer was still able to be used.
You can blame Edge for this if you'd like. They simply do not want custom tunes put onto a non CS/CTS unit for 09+ trucks.
I DO think you'll be able to sell your Gryphon pretty quickly though. And, it's a good excuse to get a CS or CTS! (I decided to get one for my truck and I still have the old Gryphon too.) You can tell Bill you want your new tunes to "feel" like the older ones, if you liked them. He can probably use that information to good advantage.

Thanks JackandJanet. I knew the custom tunes for the old truck wouldn't have worked. I was hoping to only have to pay for 3 new custom tunes and not a new programmer. I am sure this was a busine$$ decision on the part of edge not to allow older programmers to be reprogrammed and I don't blame Bill at all. I'm sure he's aware of the hardware capabilities, but if Edge says "no" he is probably bound by contract to comply. I'll see if I can figure this pegasus thing out and I guess its going to ebay. :sigh:
I do like the new CS model, but really didn't want to put out the extra funds at this time.

I understand your point completely and you are 100% correct in your analysis. It's very obvious that Edge is trying to quietly phase out the older style programmers in favor of the new ones and yes, from a business standpoint, it makes sense to market a single platform that "does everything".
Still, like you, I wish they had not closed the older units down so "firmly". In my case, if I ever sell my truck, the old Gryphon will go with it.

Yeah, Jack, my gryphon would have gone with my truck too, if I'd known. If I were in Edge's shoes, with this tough economy, I'd do the same thing, probably. It only makes sense to lock out old products in order that customers have to upgrade the hardware when we upgrade our trucks. I'm sure they've done the math and figured it's a good financial business move overall from their perspective, but just another example of a little guy consumer - trying to get by - getting passed over. I don't know how many sales for new CS and CTS would be removed by upgrading the older ones that are out there, but they must have deemed it to be signifigant. From a business standpoint I get it. From the standpoint of one of a few of us that held onto our Gryphons, it does suck though.
Guess I'll be gettin a new CS from PHP when I can sell my Gryphon.
Regards,
Darin
