Why would I need to update my firmware?

So I saw the bulletin about having to have your custom tunes rebuilt if you are updating your firmware. As the thread title says "Why" ? Why would I need to do this in the first place. What exactly am I updating? I mean everything seems to be fine and running great so what's the deal? If this has been covered than just point me in the right direction.

I was wondering :confused:

So if I'm perfectly content with the way it is now then there should never be a reason for me to update (unless of course I moded something performance wise).
