View Full Version : Do tunes have EBPV control?

I just ordered a phoenix chip today and I was wondering how the tunes would affect my Exhaust Back Pressure Valve. I assume the High Idle tune will keep it closed, but will the performance tunes keep it open at all times? The EBPV is a pain and makes me lose control in the ice and snow with the sudden acceleration burst when it opens and deceleration when it closes. If a constant fully open EBPV feature isn't part of the Daily Driver or Performance tunes, how much might it cost to have it put into the tune?

Thanks for any advice

Truck: '95 F250 with manual transmission, stock except 3" dp to 5" straight pipe & 6637 air filter.

My truck doesn't have any major mods so I got the $295 version. Also, I joined the forum after filling out the order form in case that matters.

Thanks for any advice

All of it will still act like stock.

If your exhaust backpressure valve is still closing even when your engine is hot (warm won't cut it in the winter), then your truck has problems. Either make a longer trip to work or just unplug the backpressure valve.

It can be fixed in the tuning though. However, just unplugging the valve works for most people. It doesn't really do much of anything as far as warm-up times are concerned anyway....especially on a 95-97 that doesn't "idle-up" when cold.

I would unplug it but its averaging about 5 degrees here lately and it really helps with the warm up. Earlier today I put in an order for a chip, is it possible to have the problem fixed in the tunes that will be on the chip(with the exception of high idle)? There wasn't an option for that in the ordering process but I would really like the valve to stay open. How much extra would it cost?

Its going to work just like a stock file would.

I too am growing to dislike the way the programming is setup from the factory. Never really had an issue with it because my other truck had it removed a few weeks after I bought it. But now that I am driving my dually daily, it is really starting to bug me.

Bill will be able to "relax" this function for ya! Or, you could just unplug that sucker.

I don't know what (or if) Corey will charge you for that when you're invoiced.

Two threads merged.

I have been running my 95 with the EBPV effectively turned off for the last 5 months. I just turned it back on but changed it so it's never on above 1100 RPM....heck, it even comes on at an idle now. I'll probably leave it that way.

Mines gutted and gone, that pos was irritating and I agree it did little to nothing to help warm up, regardless.

So the note that I got from Corey yesterday concerning the order.......

Not real pleased with that.

However, your tunes call for no exhaust backpressure valve actuation.

Whoa, that was weird!

Think I need to set up mine like that very soon.

Sorry. I didn't mean to get anyone in trouble if I did. I just told her you said it wouldn't be a problem and a relatively easy thing to change. I got the chip in the mail today and the paper it came with says I have a 65 hp tow tune instead of a 65 hp daily driver on the invoice. Are those pretty much the same for a manual transmission? I'm not too concerned about it, just curious.

for a manual they are almost identical, I have the same tune on my phoenix and I don't notice much of a difference between that and the 80dd... just some extra smoke with the 80
