I have 2004 F150 with 5.4L 3V. Drivers catalytic converter is shot ceramic hony comb in pieces and passenger side is clogged. Due to extreme cost in new CATS my plan is to gut them and reinstall.
Are there any dangers to the truck if I do this? Also will I need to have my custom tunes re done?

Yeah, you'd have to have your tunes redone but you can order non brand name cats for cheaper than it would be to redo all your tunes. You just can't get the hi-flow cats.

Oh I forgot to say that in my county I do not have vehicle inspections or emmisions to worry about.

88 that is a good idea. So what you are saying is to delete the two rear most cats and purchase two universal front cats and that would mean no need to reorder custom tunes.

Sorry...I didn't see that you had mentioned that you were one of those with four cats.....

Just have the rears deleted and that should be ok.....that's only if its a rear that went bad....

I agree with 88racing. I gutted my cats and kinda regret it. Not much more hp gains worth the work involved. I wish i had gotten the magna flows cats myself. Just running the canned tunes with the programmer is crappy and wont work. Like your exhaust tips there. Had my system dump out in front of back tire too and love it. Happy motoring!
