Default IDM codes and stupid door adjar switch

Couple questions really. 1st off. I have a 1271 code. Low side open inj #1.
Sounds like a open ground to me. However the truck runs fine, no shake or shudder. I've ohm'd the harness from the IDM all the way injectors and they all check OK. just the stupid CEL. the Injector buzz test sounds fine. However I cannot do a rotational velocity test. all the windows show 0.00. its almost as if the IDM isn't allowing comunication Can I have a bad IDM and still have the truck run OK?
2nd ? the door open light is on. how do I access the GEM module to determine which switch is bad.

Vehicle details
02 F550 4x4 6 sp, USG 2sp. lived tuned by the ONE ans ONLY Bill Cohron. Big Boost air filter, AIH delete, EBPV delete, BD exhaust brake, CCV

Thanks Barney

Barney,

To access the GEM, you'll probably need a factory scan tool (IDS or NGS). I've had trouble with many of the aftermarket utilities being able to access those types of modules. To be honest though, I've never had to check for a door switch issue so I couldn't tell you. I'm sure it's annoying as heck though.

As for the IDM, check the attached PDF file for diagnostic tests. If there's anything else we can help with, let me know.

Take care.

assuming you have the Ford Enhanced package, you need to select th gem module from the vehicle selection popup window. default is usually enhanced powertrain

Bill, I have that info and have run all the tests. I guess the question remains can I have an open inside the IDM? like I said before, it runs fine just the CEL and a code 1271.

Southpaw, I guess I'm AE challenged. Yes I have the enhanced powertrain ut I haven't found where to go to find the GEM module. A little step by step may be in order.

Thanks Barney

It seems odd to me that there would be an open and the truck still run fine and buzz test OK. I don't get that. I'm assuming that if you clear the DTC it comes right back? I'd honestly take it to mean that if the IDM hasn't croaked yet, it's probably getting ready to.

Any chance you have access to an extra IDM?

No Bill I don't have an extra, and I'm not close enough to any FTE members that have a spare. If I were to pick one up at a salvage yard, what years are acceptable? Is there a difference between auto and manual IDMs? Thanks for your time.

Any 95-03 IDM will work...especially for testing.

Bill, we are in the Washington DC/Baltimore area. We got assighned here July 5th. I hope to be done before the end of the year. Then we will be back to Georgia or Alabama, so I'm told anyway. Its been real interesting.

Quick update. I haven't been able to locate an IDM to try. but I really haven't tried to hard! The door switch issue was a matter of pulling the switchs on the pass side and cleaning them. the 1271 code is still there. last weekend I decided to do a solenoid swap. pulled the valve cover and swapped #1 with #3. the code jumped with the solenoid! Sooo even though the injector ohms OK, passes the buzz test, it can still be bad.I'm now trying to locate an injector solenoid.

Thanks Barney
