In all honesty, I believe that the race/extreme settings are very similar to the tow settings as far as the shifting strategies go.

However, towing 17K with an extra 90-100 HP (unless you have other modifications, you aren't seeing anywhere near 140 extra HP) isn't really the best thing you can do for the rest of your drivetrain (namely the transmission and rear axle). There is a very knowledgable person who used to frequent the Powerstroke Nation forums that is a very intelligent guy. He found out that towing heavily with 300 RWHP on tap stresses the rear axle horribly because the parts simply are not big enough and too much heat is generated in the fluid. I don't think that he was towing more than 17K when he toasted the ring and pinion either.

I'm sure Bill could line you up with something but I would strongly recommend NOT doing it.

I remember Charles saying that..........might have even been in one of my threads. IIRC he kept burning up all his u-joints in less than 150 mi. also.

I am just surprised that anyone can tow 17k in a race tune with no issues.

I agree with Cleatus, not the best thing for the rest of the truck!
