Exclamation How To Repair A Faulty Driver Installation

OK, you've installed Pegasus, you've got it running and you try to connect your Gryphon. No matter what you do, Pegasus just doesn't seem to "see" your Gryphon!

It is likely that the device drivers for the Gryphon have been installed improperly. This usually happens if you try to connect your Gryphon to your PC before you have Pegasus installed properly. Always install Pegasus and have it running before you connect your Gryphon to the PC!

To fix this problem, you will have to uninstall both Pegasus and the faulty device drivers. You need to be logged in with Administrator privileges to do both!

Uninstalling Pegasus is pretty easy.
In Windows XP, click on [Start]->[Control Panel] and then double click the Add or Remove Programs Applet. Highlight the entry for Pegasus, and click on [Remove]. Follow the prompts you see next.

In Windows Vista or Windows 7, click on [Start]->Control Panel]. Then type "program" (without the quotes in the "Search Box". Next click the "Programs and Features" link. Highlight the Pegasus entry and choose the Uninstall option. Follow the prompts you see next.
Now you have to uninstall the faulty device drivers. The procedures for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 are similar, but Vista and Windows 7 have a few extra steps:
A. In Windows XP:
1. Open [System Properties] by clicking on [Start]->[Control Panel] and then double click the "System" icon (or just use the [Windows]+[Pause/Break] shortcut).
2. Select the Advanced tab and click [Environment Variables].
3. Click [New] below the "System Variables" panel, which will bring up a "New System Variable" dialog box.
4. Type: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices in the "Variable Name" text box (or copy and paste it from here) and then type "1" (without the quotes) in the "Variable Value" text box.
5. Click OK, note that this new variable appears in the System Variables list.
6. Click OK again to return to System Properties.
7. Click on the Hardware tab, then click on Device Manager.
8. Click on the View menu heading and then click on "Show Hidden Devices".
B. In Vista or Windows 7:
1. Go to [Control Panel] and double click "System" to open the System applet (or press [Windows]+[Pause/Break]).
2. In the left pane, you will see an "Advanced System Settings" link, click on that and then click the [Environment Variables] button that appears on the "Advanced" tab in System Properties.
3. Under the "System Variables" panel, click on [New].
4. In the "New System Variables" dialog box, type: devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices into the "Variable Name" text box (or copy and paste it from here) and then type "1" (without the quotes into the "Variable Value" text box.
5. Click OK.
6. The System Variables list should now show this new variable. Click OK again.
7. In the System Properties window, click OK.
8. Log off and log back on, again, you have to have "Administrator" privilages.
9. Open the "Device Manager" (Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager).
10 In the "View" menu, click on "Show Hidden Devices".
C. The device list will change at bit at this point. You should see an entry labeled "Ports (COM & LPT)" in the driver list which will likely appear "washed out". Expand that entry by clicking the "plus" (+) sign next to it and right click the "Power Hungry Performance USB to Serial Device (COM3)" entry. That should give you an "Uninstall" selection which you would choose. If you don't see an entry for "Power Hungry Performance", simply delete any entry there that appears "washed out". A washed out entry indicates devices that are not connected, so, DO NOT have your Gryphon connected to the PC at this time!
Now, download and install Pegasus again. With Pegasus running which tells you you have a successful installation, connect your Gryphon to the PC. The PC should again try to install the device drivers for the Gryphon which it will find in the Pegasus folder.

When the driver installation is finished, the Gryphon screen should change from red to green and Pegasus should report that it is "connected".

Hopefully, this information will help some of you. Let me know if I have any information wrong for Vista and Windows 7. I don't have access to either system, so I'm working research I did on the internet.
