Precautions When Jump-Starting, Fast charging, Testing, or Installing a New Battery

There is a possibility that damage can occur to the Gryphon programmer if it is left connected during a jump-start, fast battery charge, battery test, or even during the installation of a new battery.

Basically, these actions can induce large voltage surges in the vehicle's circuitry and large voltage swings can fry sensitive electronics.

To prevent damage, always disconnect your Gryphon/Edge/CS/CTS programmer at the OBDII port whenever:
1. You jump-start your vehicle.
2. You jump-start someone else's vehicle.
3. You reconnect your battery after having it disconnected or, install a new battery.
4. You connect your battery to a high-Amp battery "fast" charger (this does not include "trickle chargers" or "battery minders/maintainers", which are low power devices).
5. You have your battery "load tested". This puts the vehicle's circuitry into a "low voltage" state which can also harm electronic devices.
The above advice also applies to any other sensitive electronic device that is always connected to power for "keep alive" memory. This could include sound equipment and similar devices.
