Would it hurt the Programmer or Truck...

Would it hurt the programmer or truck if you keep on plugging and
unplugging the programmer when the truck is off? For security
purposes and basically because it's very hot here in Vegas and I
noticed the other day that when I didn't put a sun screen on my
windshield that when I turned my truck on the screen on the
programmer was faint, as if I put the contrast to 15. I fixed
it by going back on the contrast setting and entering the existing
value to make the characters go back to it's original setting, also
because the programmer is black which is very receptive to heat.
My windshield is the only window that isn't tinted to limousine and
where the pod is located it's directly hit by sunlight in most angles.
So my question is would the ECM or the Programmer or maybe both
get damaged from unplugging and plugging the programmer back in,
not necessarily from doing it all the time, but when I know the truck
is going to sit for a day or 2? Or would it be a better option to just
put the sun protector on the windshield whenever the truck is turned
off for more than an hour?

I know of no danger in unplugging and plugging in the Gryphon repeatedly.

My Gryphon goes "faint" now and then.....randomly and periodically. It has happened during different temps, so I'm not sure if it's relative to heat specifically. Just one of those things. Like you said.....just reset the contrast and all is well.

I see thanks for your reply as always.

So it's just like a random quirk and not necessarily a damage issue then? Good
I think I'll just keep the programmer in unless I'm gonna ride my bike regularly
just for security and good measure. I was a little worried about it, but if no
one has had any serious problem with it then I guess it's not a big issue.

Does anyone know the lifespan of these things? Has it "died" on anyone yet
if so what happened and how long did you have it for?

Hot temps are known to cause the screen display to act up. Very cold temps do too. I don't know of any "failures" attributed to this.

I got my original Gryphon in 2007 and it's still going strong. (I live in the desert too.)

I see, I was just thinking that the face might one day be blank
because of that, but seeing that it's just a common quirk and
not such a big problem I won't let it bother me.

Wow that is a pretty good lifespan. Yeah the desert kinda sucks.
It was just 98 over here the other day.

lawrenr2001 - I'm removing your post here because I answered it in the thread you started. Please don't do multiple posts about the same problem. It causes lots of confusion if you do.
