PMR Rod Replacement for my 2003 7.3L

Random question. I have a buddy who is pulling a 88-97 IDI 7.3L out of a truck he is building into a rock crawler. Not sure of the exact year of the engine because it is a rebuild. The engine is fine but he wants to put a 6.9 in it.

From the minimal research I have done this thing has Forged rods. He said I could have them if I wanted to dig them out of the block. Would those rods fit in my 2003 7.3L? Does anyone know any specific reasources where I could find this out? It would be awsome if I could swap the rods into my truck so I can get Bill to put more power to it.

Thanks

Joe

Have you visually checked to verify 100% that you have PMR's? I've seen 02's with factory forged rods...one member post yesterday on TDS verified his 02 has forged rods. It's a long shot, but its not really too hard to check.

How do you check? The engine is currently in the truck and running.

Ramertide,

Just to make sure the "PSD rods" refered to in the thread you provided a link for refer to my truck?

PSD=Powerstroke Super Duty..... Super Duty=99-03 F-Series (guess it could cover all models since 99 to current date).

Everything else is OBS=Old Body Style or everything pre-99

Ill look for the rod inspection port link. IIRC the link was broken last time I pulled it up.

Can't find link. But you see the the rods (part of em) through the inspection port above the furl filter housing. It takes 5/16 bar stock to fit into the plug. I've also heard of some people using thick flat head screw driver. If you can't see anything, bump the starter. It's hard searching on my phone. Google "7.3 rod inspection port". Disregard what you read about serial numbers. It'd been debunked several times.

Awesome thanks for the info. One more question. What I am I looking for to tell the difference between pmr and forged?
