wheel swap???

My friend has an '01 F150. He has 5 lug rims and wants to switch to the 6 lug rims like one the newer F150's. Is that possible? If so, what does he need, approximately how much for the mod?

I am sure that it is possible, and I have some rims that would fit that I would sell to him, but I am not sure why he would want to do that... would it be able to hold more weight and tow more? that is the only benefit I could see...
Dont quote me but I think I heard that he might have to change out the rear axle if he wants to do that, but the front should be "relatively" simple. but then again it might be more trouble than what it's worth...
just my thoughts :)

The reason is, he loves my rims and since I am getting new ones to match my new look, he wants to buy them. Yeah, it could be way more expensive than he bargained for. Who knows? Thanks though.

Yeah I just did a quick internet search and what I found basically says that he would have to swap out the rear axle, and the front suspension, plus add in the mods needed to mount the new stuff.. might be a lot more than what he wants, probably cheaper to find rims that fit that look like yours :cheesy smile:

Yeah, probably! I appreciate you looking into it and providing some info.

I've seen wheel adapters on mustangs to use other kinds of rims. I dont know of any brands though, just that I've seen them.

Interesting, I thought there was a kit where you could change. I just thought it meant a new lug pattern.

Yeah here are some example...I'm actually considering the ford to chevy adapter because a friend has somepainted rims w/ 35s on them that he hasn't been using.

Big O Tires is able to get 5 lug 1.35" to 6 lug 1.35". They are $99 a piece. Add 2" of spacing and are considered safe to use.
