66 Mustang
Man, a 66 Mustang. A project car from a while back. It was a little putter, had the 250 Straight 6 in it, no power ANYTHING. That had to the easiest vehicle I have ever worked on, those days are long gone for sure. Just felt good cruising around in it.
:thisjustin:Man, not enough :nitenite: is leaving me a little :notallthere: No more flashbacks today.... |
One of the first full engine swaps I ever did was a mildly built 289 4bbl & C4 into a 65 Mustang that had a 250 & 3spd. For anyone that has ever done a swap in a Mustang, you can understand my surprise when the engine wouldn't fit with the headers on it! As it was, we had to shoehorn the little bugger in with the headers in place and 1 guy on each side holding them up. Plus, because we didn't have the front end lifted up, we couldn't get the engine and trans lifted in at the same time so we just threw the trans in place on the ground and dropped the engine in.
Outside of those few snags, everything else went super smoothly. Scammed a factory automatic shifter out of an old junker for the trans and we were good to go. The Christening drive was about 2 in the morning with the headers still open. Made a LOT of "friends" that night, but fortunately it was a Saturday. :o It's interesting to me just how light those little pony cars are. It takes nothing to blow the tires off of them! There really is an art to handling a car like that when launching so you don't end up looking into oncoming traffic. :yikes2: Fun days, fer sure! |
God that 289 was a great hunk of metal. That is a great visual of you guys trying to get that in there.:smiley_roll1:
As for the test drive:yikes2: Bet people heard you guys from across the county:hehe: |

For some reason I dont have the "upload picture" option in my gallerys. I scanned some pics from when I had my stang in HS (20+ yrs ago) but I can't upload it, hmmm :help: |
Here we go.
These are pics from around 86. Sitting in the yard is at my parents house. We pulled the motor out at my friends house which is behind the blue Chevy. http://dygytalworld.ehost-services13...&pictureid=251 |
Yum..thanx for that. Took me back for a minute.

I need to figure out how to enlarge scanned images
|
Scan 'em at 1200x1200, or at least 600x600. That'll make 'em plenty big. Most scanners default to 150x150 which is generally good for web stuff, but that's about it. Anything else you try to do to expand the smaller images will just make them look pixellated and blocky.
Take care. |
Thanks Bill:thumbs up yellow:

Funny ya'll should be talking about '66 Mustangs, I'm getting ready to get back to work on MY restoration (resto-mod) as soon as I'm able to get around in the garage a little better. If ya want to see pics and a lil' history about my '66, then follow this link:

Nice pics! A couple things I noticed... 289 4-bbl & Factory A/C! Awesome project car. :2thumbs:
Also glad to see your son taking an interest in it. It's something I wish I could have done with my dad, but he was 1500 miles away in Colorado during most of my formative years. :( Had to learn everything on my own. My boys (especially Wil) are totally absorbed with cars and trucks and I hope to be able to nurture that interest into something that will last a lifetime. Keep us posted as the car progresses. Unfortunately, I'll have to live vicariously through your project for now. |

He ordered it without A/C, because he could get it installed at Tommy White's Automotive (he used to work there) cheaper than the factory A/C option. I wasn't born until 1970, so I remember that car all my life. I overdosed on Children's Congesprin (remember those anyone?) when I was 4, and went to the hospital in that car. They made me drink so much milk that on the way home I threw up all in the back floorboard! I got my first french kiss sitting in that car when I was 13 (the car was parked in the back yard, so she and I were sitting in it and that's all I have to say about that...) Sorry about hi-jacking the thread, I'll quit now :innocent: |
Dad got one back in 67. It was burgandy with a black convertable top. Had the 289 w 4 bbl and 4 speed. You know what? He kicks himself for getting rid of it! Back when he got rid of it he said the car had problems keeping the rear end in it. It also had problems keeping u-joints.(Hmmm wonder what that was from?)
But here is the real kicker for $1000 more in 67 he could have gotten a vette! Lars |

I have a 66 Mustang...waterski boat
It is a restoration project that I found in a farmers back yard and I have put alot of work into it. It has a K-Code 289 out of a 67 Ford Mustang. It is a 16ft Correct Craft Mustang (same company that makes Ski Nautiques), with a gas pedal and velvet drive tranny. Does 45mph on the GPS and sounds like a Harley Davidson. It definitely draws attention on the lakes. I am moving now so it is actually for sale...let me know if you are interested Image attached - I am the guy driving |
