I don't think the fan is doing that much for you. You're picking up warm air since it's first coming through the radiator and A/C heat exchanger before being blown over the hot engine.

I agree with YOUR analysis, you'd be getting hot, less dense air this way and that would limit the power you are able to generate.

I think the intake tube coming from inside the fender well, or a "ram air" scoop similar to the Banks intake is the best design.
