Default Very new and equally confused

The title explains it well. From what I have gathered, the hydra chip tunes are the number one pic for the 7.3powerstroke. If I understand correctly gopowerhungry makes the chip, and several places makes tunes that can be uploaded onto the chip? What I haven’t figured out, the tunes? I have a nearly stock early 99, with a 6speed. I do have a chip in the truck, that was put in about 20yrs ago. I believe it is a 40hp. If I remember correctly nothing bigger than the 40hp chip was recommended until a larger exhaust was installed. Sorry, that I am so long winded. Any advise or recommendations will
Be greatly appreciated.

Hi Early - welcome to the forum. I moved your thread from Introductions since it should get better responses here, and, I removed the other thread you posted, since it was essentially a duplicate.

Bill should see your thread here and I'm sure he'll be able to give you good advice regarding more power for your truck.

- Jack

While it is recommended that the exhaust systems always be upgraded, it is not an absolute requirement. Early 99 vehicles are capable of making up to about 100 HP. Power level selection is dependent on what the vehicle is being use for. You wouldn't use 100 HP tune for heavy towing as the EGTs would become unmanageable, but for daily driving it would work great.

I hope this helps.
