Default Removed the red line from wastegate solenoid

With my low boost numbers, I tried running the truck without the red line plugged in. I just pulled it off and crimped it in place with a zip tie. It now holds higher boost than usual while accelerating but I'm still only getting 21psi. So still hunting that problem. My question is, is there any harm keeping the red line unplugged? I've heard some peolpe saying they lost mpg, but I'm not sure if that actual hand figure of the over-head display?

Nahh, your fine. Just keep an eye on the boost levels, stock turbo is not too happy above 25(ish) psi.

Yea, I'm getting 21psi at WOT. Still like to get that other 4. Thanks

Well, if I'm understanding the operation of the wastegate solenoid, .... when boost gets so high, the PCM sends pressure through the red line to the waste gate solenoid pushing on the backside of the spring...which allows the wastegate to open. Taking the red line off makes the wastegate open just by drive pressure, without assistance of the PCM. Thats what I worked out in my head from a little reading and looking at the system. So someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I just talked to cody, I think you are basically correct. I have a general understanding now, but not enough to explain it to anyone lol

Haha yea, I had to get my thoughts together before I could explain it. If I'm wrong, I'd still like someone to explain it so I would be correct if I'm ever asked again.

last I saw, egts were normal. EGT gauge has been outta wack past couple of months. Gotta get another probe or gauge

Edit: Just ordered another probe, so hopefully it will be here by Friday and have it installed this weekend. Its been bugging the crap out of me. I hope that is the fix. The techs told me how to test the gauge so hopefully its not the gauge. I bought the whole set for $200. But buying the probe itself is $50 and the EGT gauge is $110???

I wish it was as easy as a simple switch once you hit X PSI, but its not. Its a linear actuation via a diaphram. Basically as you approach higher boost levels, it opens the wastegate to allow exhaust gasses to bypass the turbine of the turbo.

The problem is when its not adjusted properly it can open earlier than its supposed to robbing the turbo of exhaust gasses at a much earlier stage in the process. Mine is so bad that with it connected, i have to really stomp on it to get it to about 18psi. Normal driving never passes 10 psi before 3k rpms. Disconnected, i hit that 18 psi almost mid throttle.

Mine is disconnected.
