Default rear axle

This might make me look stupid but how do I find out what the rear axle ratio is for my truck? I'm looking at buying a travel trailor so I need to know how much I can pull. Also any one got any advice on getting a travel trailor?

You have to look at the door jam sticker and get the code. Here is a link to a decoder...I believe its the first one on the page about the gear ratio. http://www.fordf150.net/howto/decode.php

Just for your information, 3.73 is what I have on my truck and it came with the factory tow option. So, I'd say your gear ratio is just about ideal. The tow option DOES add a transmission cooler though, and if you don't have one, that might be a good mod.

Pop the hood. Look by the radiator in front of it. Should have a coil for ac then another one for the tranny. Follow the lines for each unit. Wish I could post a picture for you.

If you don't have a cooler, I can get you a big one to keep that trans cool.

If you do have one it should be sticking out in front of the radiator about 2-3" the cooler itself is about 8" tall and 20-22" wide and about 1.25" thick.

That's great - and, you should have the drawbar receiver in the rear along with a 7-pin electrical plug (and possibly a 4-pin one as well). In the cab, you should be wired for an electric brake controller (for the trailer brakes). This is an easy mod you can do and you can pick up the controllers at places like Camping World. Good ones cost a bit over $100.

Your truck's probably rated to pull close to 10,000#, if you use a load leveling, equalizing hitch, also available at places like Camping World and easy to install.
