Gryphon made the difference!

Hey guys - Would like to share a story with you.......sorry for it being so long winded.

Coming home from work yesterday I was stopped at a red light turning left. Two young lads in a chevy (which was a decent looking truck) were coming the other way and turning right. As they turned the corner the driver kind of stared my truck down and he gave his truck a little shot of gas. I immediately noticed it was a Silverado SS. It had fairly large wheels and dual exhaust straight out the back!

Anyway, I got right behind him and my mind started thinking.......gee, I wonder if he's gonna turn left at the next road and head out the highway......if he does, should I follow him and see if he was inviting me to try him when he stared me down?
Sure enough, out the highway he goes. I made up my mind and followed him - I thought screw it - A Silverado SS on paper should handle me but I thought now was the time to see if my truck was any good or not. I figured if I can hang real close to him I would at least see how my truck is working and know where I'm at.

It's a straight flat 2 lane road for miles and I get pretty well right on his bumper as we are doing about 50-55 mph. He pulls out to pass a car and I follow suit........still right on his bumper. I can hear him feeding it little shots of gas and I move onto the center line and back intending to give him the idea that I'm gonna try to pass him. I expected that a soon as I went for it, he was gonna try to shut me down.

Anyway, I tell Blacky I'm counting on her and I kick her down. I had plenty to get out and cover him.......I roared past him pretty hard and he was definitely trying to run with me. I continued to walk away at a pretty surprising pace and by now I'm up to about 90-95 mph and he's about 6-7 lengths back. I let off on it and back down to about 60 mph and he creeps up and gets right on my bumper this time. I thought maybe I jumped him or maybe he was too tentative and not sure if he wanted to do this or not. I was giving him the benefit of the doubt. So I thought, c'mon now's your chance to get me back......bring it.
He pulls out to pass and I kick her down again. He gets his front fender up to my second door and I stop him in his tracks. I start to walk away again at the same pace as before.

To be quite honest I was surprised. I did not think I could run with that truck (even with my mods)......I was just hoping to be close to it. You never no when you race somebody......maybe his truck was poorly maintained, maybe it had high mileage, maybe those trucks aren't as quick as I expected them to be? But on this day, I simply had more truck then he did. I was clearly putting down quite a bit more power! It feels good.

The best part is......I was not even setup for a race - LOL I had a full tank of gas, was carrying my spare tire, had some stuff in the back that I usually carry and even had 3 bags of water softener salt back there. AND - I was only running my 87 performance tune. My truck made me proud today......and I take my hat off to Bill Cohron!

What has your Gryphon done for you lately

Congrats!

I'm sure you are likely to hear this once or twice more; be careful where you elect to race somebody. I don't think anyone will outright condone street racing, but when you're going to there may always be a better place and time for it. While you may be a very competent and capable driver, your opponent may not be; and you always want to limit risk to others.

Other than that....Way to go! Nice a@@ kickin' run! Now I have to get my upgrade and tunes!

Yes I am aware, and thought about that. The location was very rural and unpopulated area......I know I took a risk. It was a one shot deal........we were lucky and got away with it.

Ain't nothin' like showing some tail lights to a chevy as you blow by. Well I guess a dodge also. But congrats to putting that Ford at work.

Heck I figure if I am gone to do the 1/4 mile timing on a back road, might as well run someone on a back road

Good job. But, the last SS version was an all-wheel extended cab drive slug.. GM Should have made it a standard cab short bed.

They also should have left the all wheel drive system off of it too. Joe Gibbs had a version that would have put an SS to shame easily.

Thats awesome. Must have been a 2wd truck? Because those AWD Silverado's aren't nothing to F with. Congrats on giving him a hell of a run though!
