Help 2005 f150. 5.4 Never had a programmer

85k miles. BBK 80mm throttle body, s&b CAI, champion spark Plugs, Gibson cat back "sport" exhaust. No Programmer "yet". Will one really help? And how hard to install. 87 octane. I drive allot of miles. Seems allittle sluggish. I'm up for any tips but not so far as to a supercharger. I wish

First... Glad to have you with us!

I hate answering these questions because I don't want to sound like I'm trying to sell anything. However, a good programmer with some custom tunes (for the CAI) will make all the difference in the way the truck runs.

Hopefully, we'll get a few folks in here that can provide their feedback and opinions.

Nice looking truck, by the way.

The 80mm tb doesn't help unless you're supercharged......
The s&b intake is one of the better cai's....ie draws air from stock location.....might have some droning though.....
Champion plugs ain't the best....the motorcraft ones are....

Gibson makes a great sounding exhaust imo ........

Btw welcome.....

Give me about a week and I will be able to tell you first hand if there is a difference. Significant or not.

My truck is just about bone stock. The only mod I have done performance wise was lose the stock muffler and add on a Thrust 2 chamber with a turn down at the rear axle.

Im hoping that with the Gotts mod, Troyer valve body and the Gryphon (original), I will see some significant gains. Only time will tell though.

There have been alot of failures with after market plugs, especially with missfires .......champions have been one of the better one BUT still can't hold a match to motorcraft.....next time you're going to change plugs get the motorcraft ones from RockAuto Auto Parts you'll be surprised at their prices compared to a dealer.....brisk is another good plug but it copper core can't go the distance compared to a platinum plug.....

Take care

Bill was the first to respond to your thread. I just sold my 2005 F-150 and the tunes made a huge difference. My favorite thing was the better shifting that the tunes provided. The extra power was nice, but I felt most of the power through the improved shifting strategy.
What were you expecting PHP to respond to? I see your first post was in july, we are in august, that is less than a month. Their email system is a POS, so I am not surprised that you haven't gotten a reply back from that, but unless you asked something there that you didnt ask here, Bill responded 3.5 hours after your first post.
Hope that helps with your decision.
