Default stock tunes

What's included in the stock tunes for an 05 F150 on the Gryphon?

Do I need a custom one if all the gas I use is blended with 10% Ethanol?

The stock tunes include:
1. Transmission only - firms up your shifts
2. Towing - this one gives you much better performance when towing loads that are 2500# +
3. 91+ Octane Performance - this optimizes your truck for high octane gas
The tunes also eliminate the throttle lag that seems to plague these trucks and may improve your gas mileage and power. You can also adjust for aftermarket gears and different tire sizes.

But, the reason you want a Gryphon is for custom tunes that Bill can write specifically for YOUR needs.

For instance: I pull a 3600#, low-profile trailer. The canned Tow tune is not really set up for this situation. I have a custom tune that is.

I wanted a tune that helps me get better fuel economy using 87 octane gas when I'm not towing. Again, I have a custom tune that does this.

Do you have mods such as a CAI? If so, you want a custom tune! Do you want to use 93 octane gas? You need a custom tune.

As far as I know, the E10 gas has pretty much become the standard and I think all the tunes account for it. Bill will correct me if I'm wrong.

Hope I've been helpful!

- Jack

Jack...

You got it covered. The E10 is just crappy enough to affect fuel economy and not (usually) crappy enough to cause any real issues.

In many applications, the canned tuning is perfectly fine. As Jack mentioned, if you have (or plan on) modifications then custom tuning is the way to go. Even with a stock vehicle, there are benefits to custom tuning because we can take into account your driving habits, vehicle usage, intended fuel grade, and other factors to make calibrations that are tailored to your needs.

Take care.

I've always looked at it this way......anything that is "custom" tailored to your needs is a good thing. It offers greater satisfaction over the long haul - imo!

Even the canned tuning will seem great at first, but after a while you will think of minor tweeks or adjustments that could enhance performance for your specific needs. That is when you appreciate the ability to customize!
