The serial number isn't really a big deal at your point of getting a conversion/upgrade because your tunes will be on the gryphon when you get it back. Just be sure to put it in there when you do get it back.
The serial number is important to new gryphon owners and some who are doing the conversions who forgot there hex code because they can track where they are at in line on pegasus the client server for the gryphon. You can kind of estimate when your tunes are done.
The other reason for the serial number is in case the gryphon grows legs and the person who took it tries to sell it or use it.
