nice thread. i just joined this forum, alot of knowledgable people here. im planning on ordering a gryphon next wk. and im looking for some help as far as custom tunes. Currently i have a 40 series si/do flowmaster installed but after the gryphon i plan on adding more mods.

i want to take advantage of my exhaust/ future mods on all 3 levels. im thinking of doing a 87perf/econ tune, custom 87towing tune, and a custom 91+ tune for balls to the wall action.

do i need 3 custom tunes or should i leave the 3rd alone? im pretty sure i want a 87perf/econ tune and a custom towing tune for power up hills etc.

How does your 87 custom perf tune compare to your 91 canned tune?

Bump..

As far as tunes go, is it possible to get a canned 87 performance tune? I don't want the tranny only one. Would that be considered a custom tune? I am putting it on a bone stock 2008 5.4L

The Edge doesn't come with an 87 perf tune.

I was referring to the Gryphon.

It comes with tranny only, tow 87, performance 93.

I would like to substitute the the tranny only for a performance 87. I will not be modding the motor at all, so a custom performance 87 tune to account for CAI, pulleys, CBE, headers, etc., would be a waste of money for me. A canned performance 87 would fit just fine, if it is available.

The Edge and the Gryphon have identical canned tunes. The perf 87 tune you are wanting will be a custom tune even if you are bone stock.

That's what I was wondering.

Thanks

What does the "Tranny Only" setting do? Makes shifting more firm and that's it?

That's correct. It does, however give you the ability to modify things like tire size, shift points, maximum speed, maximum rpm, etc., through the "Custom Options menu. I saw it as a somewhat useless canned tune and had it replaced with an 87 octane performance tune.

With any tune combination I would always be able to to change my tire size, shift points, maximum speed, maximum rpm, etc... right?
