Default "Gotts" mod. Remove silencer?

Been talking to Bill about my problems with the S&B CAI and with his opinions, I've decided to ditch the S&B and go with the Gotts mod. So all lastnight I was researching as much as I could. Read the threads here and at other sites. It seems alot of people who have done this mod(or it's many variations) have also removed the "silencer". I didn't even know what that was until I started researching doing this mod . Is this something I should do as well? Does my year and model truck(08' 4.6L V8 2wd) even have one?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Rob

They aren't really hurting anything.
If anything if they are removed the drone can come back also.
I left mine alone when I did the gotts mod.

Yes Rob, yours has the "resonators" too. They're there to prevent noise (and standing waves that could actually interfere with proper airflow). I would not cut them off or otherwise interfere with their function.

Hmm....unpacked my stock intake and couldn't even find this "silencer" thing I've seen in pictures.

Oh well. Guess I'll just leave well enough alone and just do the Gotts!.

I think the 4.6 one is different.

This is for a 04-08 5.4.

Ok, so I just ran out side and snapped a few pics with my phone so they aren't the greatest but you should get the idea.

This shows the "Helmholtz" resonator in relation to the intake tube and filter.

This picture is a front view that has the gotts mod. I'm not sure why anyone paints the PVC because I used the bright white pipe and you cant tell its there. Maybe that is just a 5.4 thing.

I have pics around page 20 of this thread. I also added some later on I think.

Btw, we've pretty much got the same truck, 2008 4.6L, I would also be able to run your custom tunes if that last "B" on your HEX was a "3".

Looks like I messed up the attatchments but they still work

Can't see em either.

Yea, my intake looks nothing like the pic 88Racing posted. Was able to find a 3" flexible coupling at Lowe's this morning, but no PVC pipe. Going to try to make it to another Lowe's and Home Depot tomorrow.

Thats weird because I can click on the link and it shows the pictures.

Here are the two pictures...again.

If you were closer I'd give you my leftovers. I have enough for maybe 3 or 4 gotts mods on the 4.6.

The pictures show now, Longshot. The 4.6L is MUCH different than the 5.4L!

The new "Gotts" intake on a 5.4 is VERY exposed, about 3-4 inches.
