Default Torque Management?

Last week I had a set of 4.30 gears installed in my truck. Sadly, performance gains were not nearly what I had expected. I thought that going from a 3.55 ratio to 4.30's would be a game changer, but it really hasn't. 0-60 times are JUST better than stock. 7.9 was the best I could manage yesterday, 3.55's were like 8.5ish.

I've also noticed that there is a hesitation feeling when I'm taking off. Kind of like losing traction, but not. Someone suggested that torque management could be to blame. It doesn't feel like the tranny is slipping, RPM's are steady through the gear. I'm also using an 87 performance tune built from early this year. The only changes since then is the gears and the H-pipe was swapped to an X-pipe. Could the old tune be specifically catered to that gear ratio and not be playing well with the new ratio?

PS: Shift firmness felt stock so I bumped it up to +10 +10 +8. Any risks?

Did you gradually bump them up? Have you driven since making those changes? Dont want it to shift too hard because it will cause more strain on other parts of the line.

I'm assuming you have made the correct changes in the custom options menu?

Yeah I have made all of the proper setting such as tire size, gear size, shift firmness, and speed limiter, but nothing else. The custome tunes never had a very sporty feel to them. Maybe I didn't specify what I wanted in the order form properly. There's still a throttle lag and the shifts were OEM spongy when I got them. I bumped them to +5 +5 +3, then +7 +7 +5, now +10 +10 +8.

The whole hesitation or "loss-of-traction-but-not-really feeling" has been going on for quite a while now. I first noticed it a few months ago, but didn't think anything of it. I haven't made any shake down runs until recently, and rediscovered this.

Ok, I'll leave a post for Bill to look into your file but I doubt he'll get to this until sometime next week.

Thanks, I've been meaning to call him about the shift firmness and how I changed them for about 6 months now, but always manage to get side tracked.

Yeah, I left him a post. Not sure what he'll do since you've had the tunes for a while.

Couldn't manage to recreate the hesitation feeling. 0-60 went from 7.9 to 7.44. Maybe it's possible that it really was losing traction but not enough to make any noise? Also checked tranny fluid color and level, all good and red.

Yeah, my stock tires didn't make a sound. I never knew they were spinning until I noticed a bunch of sets of my tread where I usually do my 1/4 times. Only time I ever heard them was when I was at a race track and could hear that nice even burn around turns. Then put bigger tires and made some other adjustments and now I have to be careful on launching because these tires I can hear.

Update:

I'm a derp. Turns out it was traction loss, but couldn't hear it with the windows up.

Is it still OK to run the +10 +10 +8 settings?
