Default Edge Evolution 2100

I bought a used Evolution from ebay and when I went to install it it read my hex and I picked tune 2. While installing page 2 of the tune it frooze at 100%. After twenty minutes I unhooked it and tried to start the truck. It did so I tried again to install the tune and the unit said programming interupted reprogramming to stock. It then frooze on page 2 100% again. I called Edge and was told it was my trucks ECU. They clain it's build date is too early 4/96. It's a 97 with a 4.6 and a 4r70w tranny. What can be different because it's a early build? I sent the unit to Edge and they gave me a new cord and a Fusion update disk and a different unit. "This unit does'nt have any scratches". I'm affraid to hook it up till I get some advice. Was it the cord or maybe the unit? If it's really a ECU problem can I just get one with a later build date to solve this problem? Thank for reading this long post.
