tohi2care is on a distinguished road
Default Oss=Tss

I've noticed that when checking these numbers the O/D has to be off in order to get the numbers to be the same, but even still when I hammer on the throttle there is like an 800(rpm?)difference.

What do the numbers represent and why must they equal each other?

What is the best way to interpret the information on the screen?

Does this mean my tranny is slipping? and if it is how do I correct the problem?

I don't think the tranny is slipping, and I don't think there's a problem, but I sure agree with your observations.

Yup! The O/D has to be off, because if it's ON and the TC is locked, TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed - the "engine input") will be less than OSS (Output Shaft Speed - the "resulting driveshft speed"). Sorry, I may have this a bit "untidy" but, the point is, you're getting more, in the way of revs to the wheels, than the engine is having to supply. Hence the term "overdrive". Not great for acceleration, but good for economy.

But, you hammer the throttle, at first the TC unlocks, which allows the engine to spin faster (which increases TSS relative to OSS) producing more torque and the demand valve in the transmission moves to cause a downshift, further increasing the TSS over the OSS. I think I have this sort of right.

So, I'm not really much impressed with the statement in the Edge/Gryphon manual about OSS that "Used with TSS to determine if transmission slip is occurring. If OSS=TSS, no slip is occurring". I think it's a bit more involved than that. I think what equal values really mean is that if you're in 3rd gear, and both are equal, the TC is locked!

Big deal! I'd rather see this referred to as a way of maximizing economy or torque. "If TSS > OSS, you are getting torque multiplication". "If TSS < OSS, you are operating at max economy".

But, we have other PID's that tell us the state of the TC and our instantaneous economy. I honestly don't know what good these two PIDs are, anymore.

Please everyone, feel free to disagree - I came to this conclusion all on my own, and I'm really no expert!

I think I need to read the manual cover to cover and then some didn't really know these pid's existed!
