Default Simple CS question

PHP is shipping my CS today. I make sure that my turck is locked every night, but we do have a problem with kids getting into vehicles and taking change and common items (radar detectors and GPS systems).

My question is this:
Is there any harm in unplugging my CS at night when I lock it up and then plug it in the next morning?

Does the CS HAVE to always be plugged in? If I forget to plug it in the next morning will it harm anything?

Thanks
Nick

There's no harm in removing the CS anytime you feel the need. It's just going to get "old". You'll be able to unplug the OBDII cable at the back of the unit itself, leaving the cable installed in the vehicle.

Then, you can either remove the suction cup mount from the windshield, taking the CS with it, or, you could slip the CS off the suction cup mount, which might actually be harder to do.

When you reconnect it, it will immediately "come alive" and will prompt you to turn the ignition key to ON.

Do the "thieves" commonly break windows? If not, perhaps just a set of Jimmi Jammer door lock protectors might be enough to deter them. I've installed these on all my doors and the tailgate and hood.

They typically check for unlocked doors. The first time they got into mine they only took spare change, leaving my radar detector (whistler), my mui jim sunglasses and some $50 binocs. THe second time they made off with my radar detector but left the power cord because they could not figure out how to get it out (hardwired to a power source. I always make sure to lock my truck and usually lock it 2-3 times to make sure it's locked.

Police think it's kids looking for money or items easily pawned or sold. I'm just afraid that if someone knows what the CS is they may be more ineterested in getting into my truck, especially since the dash pod I ordered to go with it is right by the drivers window.

I'm not sure if I want to disconnect it every night, but I wanted to make sure of what will or won't happen before I do so.

Thanks for the response!

Definitely look into those Jimmi Jammers Jack is talking about. Even if you did lock the keys in your truck by accident a professional locksmith can still get in.

IMO, the dash pod is less noticable than the suction cup mount. If it is painted the same color you wont notice while a suction cup mount leaves a huge circle on the windshield.

Worse case scenario, if the truck is programmed and they do try to sell it. Whoever buys it will be because the units can only program one vehicle at a time and then they are locked to that vehicle. But I dont know if Edge will block a unit from being reactivated if it has been reported stolen.

A friend of mine had trouble with kids pillaging their street. The cops wouldn't go through because they had areas of "greater urgency". Him and some neighbors pulled a few all-nighters until they caught them. The theives found the sound of a shotgun chambering without being able to find the source a good reason to sit there until the cops came. Not the smartest thing they could have done but it worked out in that case. But I could tell ya all kinds of nasty little tricks that would teach those kids to stay out of your truck.

I have a motion activated driveway alarm. So now I can tell if anyone passes beyond the sidewalk into my driveway.

I am going to look at Jimmi Jammers but, I'm also interested in what other "tricks" your talking about. Please share.

I would also have that motion activated driveway thing turn on your exterior lights (floods or driveway).

I'm guessing staying up late to shoot at them with a shotgun or rifle is out of the question right? (Texas tradition, we dont dial 911 except to have starflight fly them to the hospital...not really joking if you live in rural areas surrounding cities)
If you were near by I would let you borrow my paintball gun. Full electronic at about 20 balls per second coming out of the barrel at up to 350 fps.

Leave a purse on the center seat open but have it obviously hung up in the seatbelt so they dont snatch it, then put a full sized rat trap (or mouse trap if you want to be nice) with a flat panel on the trigger to make it go off easier. If their nosy little fingers touch it...well yeah. Sounds crazy but a friend of mine had trouble with people going through his backpack in highschool until he disguised a mousetrap in a pack of trident gum. Only took one idiot and he could have kept a million dollars in there.

If you have a metal gate to enter the property you could put an electrical charge using a regular fence charger...did that to the neighbor's dog. Works great

If you want avoid staying up all night, besides a territorial hungry dog, you have to just set traps or get the cops to do more drive bys. I'm guessing you live in a subdivision where your neighbor is 30 ft away making a prime target for theives and vandals. And what I just put on here has worked to keep people out of places they dont belong.

Also if you have one of those game cameras I KNOW that they work. My uncle set one up in deep south-west Texas and deer and hogs were not the only thing he saw on it.

I keep thinking I'd like to electrify the vehicle somehow to deliver a VERY painful shock if it was not "disarmed". But, I KNOW I'd forget to "disarm" it....

Jack, you have no idea how close I was to mentioning that...because it is quite possible. I think you might have to disconnect the battery though. You also have to run an isolated wire to the inside handle because the truck's paint does not conduct electricity. But besides that you can easily do it.

Yeah I live in a subdivision but neighbors are maybe 15-20 feet apart. The kids must come around late and they just check for unlocked handles. It's not a current problem. But usually when they hit our neighborhood they get a few vehicles. I'm not opposed to being up all night but this usually only happens about 1-2 time per year.

Unfortunately my driveway alarm is just a $5 dollar motion sensoe that sounds a doorbeel type alarm in the house. There's no way for me to wire it to lights, that I know of. I keep my drieway lights on all night every night. The truck gets parked outside because the garage is not big enough. The nose is less than 3 feet from the garage door. My lights are right beside the door fairly well illuminated.

I would love to have a shock system, but I too would forget to disarm it. I appriciate the offer for the paintball gun if I were closer. In college my roomate and I shot the guys accross the street for fun with a paintball gun. They couldn;t say anything cause they weren't old enough to buy beer.

Well if its only once or twice a year then you just end up being on edge constantly. I guess building a moat and filling it with alligators would be too expensive with how meat prices have gotten.

I wonder if you turned off the garage lights if it would help. With the lights on they can easily see if the truck is unlocked as well as it's contents.
