I got custom CS tune 2day and was excited !! I downloaded em and intsalled on my truck and I hav 2 say It feels I bit slower than the 93 canned tune witch I had custom tuned it myself thru the custom option menu !! It was defintely not any faster or better performing in any way. So now im real confused ! I know for a fact that I hav the custom ones now cause of the PHP splash screen and also the calibration number !! Anybody got any ideas??? I just cant see how this could be. Theres no way that Bill's custom tunes arnt any faster or better than the canned tunes !!! The truck now just doesn't pull as hard as the 93 canned tune. Im stumpped !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.!

You had better call Bill@PHP!
Explain to him what adjustments you did in the custom options menu. Nothing any of us can do for you on the forum.

Brian,
There are a couple things you need to keep in mind. First, it's been commented over and over that running the 93 canned tuning with a CAI is NOT a good idea because the combination can cause an excessively lean condition. Now, there's no question that leaning out the fueling on a gasoline engine will generate more HP, but the question is just how lean are you? Running too lean could possibly leave you with melted spark plugs or in extreme cases holes in your pistons, and there's no question how poorly that will run. ![]() The biggest difference between the canned 93 and the custom 93 programs are the MAF table and Open Loop fuel tables. The custom tunes were built for the K&N CAI you have installed and the fuel curves are modified in order correct any lean conditions caused by the CAI in order to provide safe power. Sometimes this doesn't necessarily mean the most power. One other thing to look at is that the PCM will learn fuel adjustments in order to correct for rich or lean conditions. We've often seen where customers have had intakes or other modifications installed and when switching to custom tuning have had a similar loss of performance due to the time it takes for the PCM to relearn. One suggestion is to return the truck to stock, disconnect the power to the ECM for 10 minutes to clear any stored fuel strategies, reconnect and then reprogram the truck. In most cases, this helps improve the performance of the vehicle and allows the custom files to work effectively. Take care.

I havnt installed the CAI yet. I know u buil the tunes for that but I figured
id wait till i got the tunes to install the CAI !! I currently have the GOTTS mod. So I will install the CAI then reset to stock, clear ECM memory then reprogram. I thought of clearing the ECM memory but wasnt shur. Now I know since u recommended it !! After I do this I will just drive it for a while and see how it does after a drive cycle or two. Also, when im installing the custom tunes do i just skip past the "do you wana create a custom tune" option since these have been tweaked by you ? Or if say I wana change shift firmness or converter lock points could i do that or is this a bad idea and i should leave the custom options alone ?? Just curious!!! Thanks again, Brian |

Brian,
If you haven't installed the intake yet, that's going to be a bit of a problem because now you're going to be running too rich and explains the loss of performance. We were taking into account a calculated change in AFR from the CAI kit. Let me know how things run after you get the CAI installed and the ECM cleared out and reprogrammed. I'm sure things will feel much better afterwards. In most cases, you'll want to skip the "Custom Options" unless you just feel like fiddling around. Sometimes there are still minor tweaks that can help pick up a little performance, usually with shifting. Some vehicles just respond a little differently to certain changes. Take care.
