Help1 New Evol CTS -- Return to Edge OR Convert to Gryphon????

Ok,
I did not know PHP existed until 5 hrs ago! I just purcahsed a new Edge Evolution CTS for my 2001 Ford Excursion 7.3 Diesel (Stock - except remanufactured 4r100 HD tranny) on 8/1/2010.
I am a little/lot unsatisfied with the Evol CTS as I noticed it does not have an "economy" tune for my vehicle. Also, when I set it to "tow" tune, 3rd gear really seems to slam hard. **But I was not towing a load at the time, so maybe that is the reason - I would normally be towing 7000 lb load.
Also in "tow" mode, I noticed that the Evol CTS Boost Guage never registered any Boost at any speed (0 to 75mph)?? What's with that?
I got normal Boost reading on the CTS at the stock setting.

It would also be nice to have the PHP tunes & custom tunes available.

BUT, my questions are:

(1) Should I convert my just purchased Edge Evol CTS to a Gryphon?
I think I can send the Edge Evol back for a full refund to Edge within 30 days of purchase?

(2) Is my Edge Warranty on my Evol CTS still valid if I convert it to a Gryphon? (Not sure I want to convert if the Warranty is voided)

Thanks

1. Convert if you want custom tunes for your truck.

2. The warranty stays valid - I think in this case PHP will "take over" the warranty, but I might be wrong. There's really nothing done to the CTS that identifies it has become a Gryphon except for the software, and that is easily undone.

So, you could POSSIBLY get everything cheaper if you returned the unit you have and purchased a different one from PHP. This is because you get the custom tunes for less this way. You'll need to do a bit of comparison shopping using PHP's website: Power Hungry Performance - Feed your hunger for POWER!

I'm also puzzled you don't have an "economy" tune - I thought that was a standard feature for diesels.

I think Bill can change the shift feel for you to get rid of the "slamming" into 3rd gear.

As for the "boost" readout, I cannot explain why you don't see that in the tow tune. You say you see it at stock - does it show on any other tune?

I'm not a diesel guy though, so my knowledge of your vehicle and the CTS for that vehicle is pretty minimal. The questions I asked or things I commented on WILL be answered by someone who DOES know these things.

One of the other Moderators, cleatus12r, works at PHP and is a diesel expert. Look for him to provide some better answers.

Oh, don't be afraid to call Edge Tech Support. You paid for that when you bought the CTS, so you should use it! I've talked to them several times.
