Hi I have a CS in my 2008 5.4 f150, I just got a banks cold air intake model #41806. In the CS manual it says that it may cause lean conditions. I want to know if I'll be alright using the stock settings on my CS or do I need a custom tune?? I've tried to ask this question to Banks they told me to ask Edge Performance and Edge told me to contact banks! Could someone please help!?

The general consensus among tuners (PHP, Troyer, VMP) is that ANY after market warmer-than-stock intake that alters the geometry around the slot-style MAF does require a new (and more accurate) MAF transfer function. This is especially critical for the 04-05 5.4L, 3V engines, but a REALLY GOOD idea with any 5.4L 3V engine.
PHP may already have the corrected MAF transfer function (Banks does as you can order their power pack with custom tunes).

Banks is not as aggressive in their deviation from the stock cross-sectional areas where the MAF is inserted, and as such doesn't cause nearly the problems that more aggressive CAI kits can. However, it is always a good idea to have your programmer customized to match any modifications that will change airflow or how airflow is measured. This includes CAIs, headers, high-flow cats, true dual exhaust, larger throttle bodies, spacers, and such. About the only modification we really don't need to address is a Cat-Back system that utilizes a Single In/Single Out or Single In/Dual Out setup.
I hope this helps.

For my 2007 F150 5.4l I have a K&N air intake kit with custom tube before and after throttle body. I have asked same question and I was told that the 87 tow tune should be okay as that by default is a more rich tune so the cold air intake balances it more.
But there have been issues so if you notice a lean condition then they suggested that I pull some timing out and perhaps some more things. I will cross that bridge when I get there.
