Default limp home mode

I have a evo cs with canned tunes. Last week, a couple minutes after I started my 08 f150, my truck went into limp home mode. I run around in the tow mode and was just accelerating from a stop sign. I pulled over and retuned the truck back to stock and everything was just fine. I'm a little scarred to retune back to tow as I don't want to break my truck. Any thoughts anyone?

See if you can pull some codes. If there is a code you will at least know the cause and can move forward from there. There are also many other factors besides just the programmer.

Pete -

Just to clear things up a bit, other than the CS programmer, your truck is stock, right? (No CAIs, exhaust mods, blowers, etc., and you are using Motorcraft branded plugs, coils, injectors, etc.)

As Longshot said, try to find the code that was thrown when your truck went into failsafe.

I checked for codes and found none. And the truck is stock except for cat back exhaust and a cai. It hasen't happened again so I guess I won't stress.

Same just happened to me today. I have same exact mods, did the same exact thing. put it back on #2 tow again and has been fine for rest of the day. I think this is the symptom of running lean... If I'm not mistaken. There are no codes that were thrown or anything so hoping it was just an anomoly.

If the vehicle is running lean enough to cause drive-ability problems then there will be a whole pile of codes.

Have you double checked that everything non-stock is connected how it should be?

Everything is in place and tight. was in tow mode, hit the gas and it was like I lifted my foot off the gas, though I hadn't. My trucks LCD displayed FAILSAFE MODE. At that point power was greatly reduced. I turned it off and reprogrammed back to #1 and was ok. I got to where I was going and programmed back to #2tow. Noticed some pinging at certain throttle inputs. but no more failsafe mode yet.
Just went out to see if there was a code thrown but no DTC's at all. Can't wait to burn off this 87 and get some good fuel in it. So anyone know what else can put my truck into failsafe mode?
