Question Custom 87 towing tune

I have a stock 08 F150 FX4. my question is if a custom tow tune be a worth while investment. On the weekend I tow a ATV trailer in the mountains of PA. normally the trailer would be loaded with one ATV and total weight would be around 1200 lbs. sometimes i would have two atvs and total weight would be under 2200 lbs.

summer time i sometimes tow a 21' boat that would weight around 6000 lbs but only be towed locally in the primary flat lands of NJ.

I intend to buy the custom 87 performance but would a custom 87 tow tune be a worth while investment?

which would be better when towing the atv trailer?

Planned purchase is a Gryphon CTS

Default Custom 87 towing tune

I would highly recommend the tow tune if nothing else then for the boat. It is not advisable to tow more then 2000-2500 pounds on a performance tune. The tow tune from my understanding helps with temps.

I agree with the getting both the tow and the performance tune. The tow tune will have a few different shifting points, and it will run a little richer to make sure the engine doesn't knock while towing. for the price I think that the extra tune is a worthwhile investment for the safety of your truck!

Default Custom 87 towing tune

Thanks for adding the information about the shift points. I forgot about that as the haven't released that for the 09-10 yet due to the separate computer.

I may hold off on the 87 tow and use the canned version for now. once i have the mods done I will get a new 87 performance and then get the custom 87 tow.

Future plans are for: cat back, electric fans, gotts mod.

will the gotts mod need any changes to the tune. or should i order the custom tune and say that i have the gotts mod and do it before i get or run the custom tunes ?

thanks for your help

Once again - the Gotts Mod does not need any special tuning. It is perfectly safe with the canned tunes and a custom tune is not altered for it. BUT - ALWAYS tell Bill everything you've done to your truck, because he may factor in possible interactions that we know nothing about. You do not want to keep secrets from Bill!

YAY! Congratz! and that is a good idea for the tunes right now, I am not sure how much customization you will be needing for a tune with those relatively simple mods, but I promise it wont hurt . Those mods that you listed dont require a custom tune on most vehicles, aka ours, but they will add some performance, and custom tunes will be able to take advantage of those better than canned tunes, and especially better than stock .
Have fun with all those!

order placed! I though realistically about the mods. The gotts mod will be done but the rest will most like likely be put off. I got some things around the house that need to be done.
so I ordered the CTS with the 87 tow and 87 performance.
