| Gryphon™ CS and CTS Programmer Post here if you have a question or comment about the Gryphon CS (Color Screen) or CTS (Color Touch Screen) Programmer.
AFTER YOU DOWNLOAD YOUR CUSTOM TUNES, DO NOT PLUG YOUR PROGRAMMER BACK INTO FUSION, OR YOUR CUSTOM TUNES WILL BE ERASED! PLEASE BE AWARE THAT IF YOU CONNECT TO FUSION FOR EDGE'S LATEST FIRMWARE UPDATE, YOU WILL ERASE YOUR CUSTOM TUNES! |

The title of my thread is misleading. I basically want the ability to have a custom tune on my CTS.
From PHP's Website: "UPGRADING YOUR EVOLUTION TO A GRYPHON You'll need to send your programmer to us to be upgraded. If your truck is a 6.0L PSD, 6.4L PSD, or 2004-2008 F-150, we only need the programmer, itself. However, if your truck is a 7.3L PSD, please also include your OBDII cable when you send us your programmer. When your Evolution arrives, we will change the case and update the firmware for a $25 charge. Your custom tunes will be uploaded onto your programmer before it ships back to you. UPGRADING YOUR EVOLUTION CS / EVOLUTION CTS to a GRYPHON CS / GRYPHON CTS You do NOT need to send your Evo CS or Evo CTS to us to be upgraded. When your custom tunes are completed, you will be able to download them directly to your programmer using Edge's Fusion software. If you currently own a Gryphon with custom tunes and purchase a CS or CTS from PHP, we will load your custom tunes onto your new programmer at no charge. If you currently own a Gryphon with custom tunes and purchase a CS or CTS from another vendor, we will upload your custom tunes to Edge's Fusion software for a $50 charge." I ask this because a company is selling the EDGE Evolution CTS Gas Part#85250 really cheap compared to any other place I found. After reading PHP's policy on upgrading would I need to send in the boxed version of CTS to PHP to be upgraded to a gryphon for custom tuning? Sounds like the new fusion software can allow custom tuning through the stock CTS units? Am I understanding this correctly? Confused I also have a 2008 F150.Thanks, Andrew |

You DO NOT send in a CS or CTS unit to be "upgraded". You simply tell PHP you want custom tunes for your CS/CTS and they will make them available to you through the Fusion application once they are written.
You will have to provide PHP with your unit's Serial Numbr (S/N) and truck's "calibration code" before this can happen. You also need to tell them anything else that would relate to your tune(s) so that Bill can write what YOU want. The details are in the order form. - Jack

Ah, thank you so much. So there would be no difference between the Canned CTS Edge and canned CTS Gryphon? I thought only the Gryphons units could be custom tuned. I just see a lot of people converting their edges to a gryphon, just want to make sure nothing is different between the units. Thanks Jack! |

The "send in for conversion" applies only to the older, monochrome Edge Evolutions that were sold for use on 04-08 trucks. I have one of those too, but replaced it with a CTS. (Largely so I could talk intelligently about the new devices, but, of course, also for the "bling".) Edge did NOT allow Bill to "recase" or alter the firmware in the new CS/CTS units in any way. So, there is no point in "sending them in". However, since he helped them create the canned tunes for the units, they allow him to create custom tunes for them too (big of them, eh?). ![]() This "dual permission strategy" has caused a hiccup or two, but I'm very happy with the tunes on my CTS, and the way the unit works. There's a few things the CS/CTS doesn't do the the older units CAN do, but the CS/CTS can actually accept 20 different tunes! (If that's what turns you on!) Personally, I think that's about 17-18 too many tunes, but some people like this feature. I appreciate the ability to monitor more PIDs, and the backup camera feature was a big seller too. However, once I got the backup camera and installed it, I decided to spring for a Kenwood 7160 headunit that has GPS, CD, DVD, backup camera support, and a raft of other features. So now, I pipe the backup camera into that device (7" screen!). The "Mods" never end! (I just upgraded my trailer brake controller too!) ![]() So, hope this all makes sense to everyone! - Jack |
