Default Problem with backlighting screen - Gryphon CS

I received my custom tune a few weeks ago and really love the jump in performance. However, now I'm seeing a problem with my CS (just received new back the first or second week of January 2011). If it's dark out I can see the screen with no problems. But if it is light outside (even on a cloudy, rainy day) the screen is so dark that I can barely see the guages. I've tried covering the sensor for the backlight dimmer and adjusting the autodimmer, all to no avail. Do I need to send the unit back to Power Hungry, back to Edge?

Back to Edge. You CAN send it to us but there will be a huge shipping delay.

Call Edge tech support and they'll give you a return authorization number to ship it back.

Covering the sensor would tell the device that it's nighttime and the screen would go dim. Now, the brightness adjustment, as I recall is VERY sensitive, and will dim the screen even in daylight. My autodim setting is 95% (which I think is the default?). If yours is not there, try that value and then adjust up or down to see the effect if any. I think down MAY make the screen brighter, but I could be wrong.

If this doesn't work, then you might have to get a replacement unit.

Already tried changing the autodim settings from 0% to 99% and some in between, without effect. Is Edge going to give me a hard time since it has the Gryphon software on it? Also, am feeling a little buyers remorse that I didn't spend the extra and get the CTS. Any chance that I can upgrade (pay the difference) since this unit is defective anyway and I've only had it like 2 1/2 months?

I would not think that Edge could refuse to honor the warranty. PHP is an "authorized" seller of the CS/CTS. And, once you return the truck to stock, you can always connect it to Fusion which should restore the original firmware and calibrations to the unit. They, DO acknowledge a potential problem in the backlighting, and they issued a "software fix", so I doubt they'll give you a hard time.

As for upgrading to a CTS, I suppose it would not hurt to ask. They can only say yes or no.

You're quite welcome, Cody. What you do here is far more than I do anyway.

Default Thanks for all the help.

Just wanted to thank you all for the suggestions. I returned my truck to stock (during one of the times the backlighting was working). I'll contact Edge and get this resolved. Then I'll be putting the tuner up for sale as I no longer have my '05 anymore. I traded for a 2011 F150 with the Ecoboost V6. It's certainly nicer to be getting around 15mpg around town then the 11-12 I was getting with the old truck! And the Ecoboost feels like a 70s musclecar compared to my 5.4.
