Default Edge CS Throttle Response

Hi everyone! I'm Björk. I'm from Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. I have a 2005 Ford F150 with the 5.4L. It has a 6" Lift and 35" tires, AFE Cold air intake and Magnaflow exhaust. I just recently purchased the Edge CS. I also had purchased the Superchips flashpaq. I tested out both of them to figure out which one I liked better. I really enjoyed the throttle responseof the superchips flashpaq. After doing 0-100km/h the Edge took the cake. Stock without and tunes was 14.4 Seconds. The flashpaq came in at 12.9 Seconds and the Edge came out at 11 seconds flat. This was all running Oct 91 fuel. I'm really interested in getting some custom tunes for my CS through PHP but what I was curious was how much of a difference over the Edge tunes they are? I was really hoping for something with the throttle response of the Flashpaq and the top end of the CS. I'd really appreciate anyone elses thoughts and or input.

Sincerely,
Björk

With your AM intake, you absolutely NEED custom tunes to prevent your truck from running lean.

The Edge is designed and meant for stock trucks. To prevent further damage, I recommend you operate on level 2 (towing) and stay away from level 3 (91+ performance).

Luckily with the new CS, you don't even have to send the unit to PHP.

Simply fill out an order form, include your hex code. and wait to be notified.

BTW, with 35" tires, you really should consider re-gearing. You'll get back a lot of off-the-line performance you lost with the tires.

What gears do you currently have? and it depends on what you want, for towing and more torque I think most recommend 4.56 ish gears, but 4.10ish gears have been used before with success, I think the later might help a little with gas mileage but the power wouldn't be as responsive.
Like I said, it is up to you and it all depends on what you want out of your truck

It has 3.73s and I do mostly highway driving. I don't tow anything just use the truck to get my tools to and from the jobsite. I just want the throttle response and bottom end or the superchips and the top end grunt of the edge =P

I think the higher 4.5ish gears would keep you a lot closer to what stock wheels feel like with that gearing. There are formulas and things that can help you figure out which gears will provide what you are looking for, but low end power and high end power it is hard to find a good compromise because unless you add a lot of power, you are really suck with either on or the other. :/

With 4.56s would I not be humming at a higher RPM at highway speeds? I do alot of highway driving. As it is with the 3.73s at 110 kms an hour I rev at about 1700rpm.

Yes you would be, which is why it is always a tossup between the two gearing options, higher rpm's at highway speeds makes worse gas mileage, but imho 1700 rpm's isnt too high, but yeah it might get bumped up higher than 2k rpm's. either gearing option though would bump up the rpm's at highway speeds.

If you're worried about operating at too high an RPM at 110K (about 66 mph), you could try 4.10 gears. My truck, with 3.73 gears and 32" OEM tires is at about 1860 RPM at 66 mph, so, I'd say your gearing is a bit low.

It's possible you are kind of on the "reverse side of the power curve" (if that makes any sense). With your gearing, you are increasing the load on the engine even though the RPMs are lower. You have to give it more gas to compensate for that increased load. It's possible, but in no way guaranteed, that you could get better gas mileage with 4.10 gears. The only way to know is to try it, and that's kind of an expensive way to find out. (However, your passing response would be better.)
