I have two e99 F250's with 7.3 diesels which are pretty much identical except one is a R cab and one is an X cab.
The R cab I have owned since 2001 or 2002 and has an AIS intake and BTM as the only mods. I have a Superchips for it that I got shortly after I bought the truck. The X cab appears to be stock except it has a newer model intake box. One question is, would I be able to submit 2 HEX codes and have custom tunes for both trucks? I know the Superchips doesn't allow me to use it on more than one as it is locked by VIN number. Another question is on pricing. I see that the base unit comes with stock +3 canned tunes and the custom tunes are written after that and made available for download. It looks like there are a bunch of already developed tunes which are matched to the HEX code then, if the truck is modified and customs tunes for the mod's are desired, they are $30 per. I am unclear as to whether some quantity of PHP tunes, selected from the list, are included with the base unit or if they are provided at additional cost? |

Next, if you have custom tunes for one, the programmer will be totally useless for the other truck. The programmer only holds custom tunes for one vehicle, there is no way to "swap" them in the programmer. The unit DOES ship with "canned" tunes though, and these should probably work on the two trucks, provided you only tuned one at a time. The canned tunes are better than stock, by a lot. They are included in the cost of the programmer. Finally, if the one truck is Superchips tuned, you will not be able to use a different programmer on it until you used the Superchips programmer to return it to stock. You cannot "stack" tunes. If I've confused you, please ask me to clarify. - Jack

![]() The one area I am a little confused about is what distinguishes the "canned" tunes versus "custom" tunes. Are the "canned" tunes the same as the Edge unit and anything created by PHP considered custom? Or are "canned" tunes the PHP standard tunes for essentially stock trucks (therefore included with the base unit) and the "custom" tunes are true customs based on the specific mod's on the truck? Hope that makes sense. |

Canned refers to straight out of the box (can
), with a CS and CTS they are from edge, but Bill worked with Edge to write them so they are fairly good. The custom tunes are exactly that, customized for your truck, your mods, your driving style, and where you live, plus any other factors that you think are important that Bill knows. Hope that cleared it up. |

And to add to Tico's remarks, which were entirely correct, canned tunes are "generic" enough to work across a number of model years and even with different engines. They're like a suit of cloths you buy at an upscale men's shop that don't need tailoring.
A custom tune is built off your particular truck's hex/calibration code. This is the "base" program that is in YOUR truck's PCM, and it can be quite different from other truck's, even in the same model year. It is very specifically matched to your truck and would not work on a truck with a different hex code. It's like taking that suit to a tailor who custom fits it to YOUR body. - Jack |

Thanks for all the input... Sounds like no matter what, I can't really get one unit to work for both trucks. I think the Phoenix unit with gauges will probably be my choice when the time comes since it will be dedicated to one truck.
