Default 2010 F150 5.4 CTS

When the torque converter is locked does it show up on the F150 CTS gryphon? All that appears on my screen is the gear # in the square box. I have seen some pictures with a lock symbol next to the box and wondering if this feature is working on the 2010 F150 or if I have it programmed wrong.

Thanks

If you're showing the Gear PID, it should also show the condition of the Torque Converter and, you're right, if it's locked, you should see a little padlock beside the gear value you're in. There's nothing you can do to prevent this from showing.

But, since you have a new truck, it's possible the software in the CTS is not recognizing the state of the Torque Converter. This could be because there's no sensor for it in 09+ trucks, or it could be something the people at Edge have not really implemented yet in that box, like they still have to implement a transmission tuning capability.

Edge has had a lot of difficulty, I think, in setting up the tunes for the new Ford trucks. It took them over 2 years just to get an engine tune. Part of the problem is that there are two computers, an ECM and a TCM and, there are now 6 forward gears instead of 4.

Oh, and Bill can change the tune in the unit, but Edge won't let him alter the firmware (which is what controls what the unit displays).

Mine doesn't show the lock symbol either.

I sent an e-mail to Edge yesterday asking them WHEN they will implement the TCM control/programming.

Wait for it...

Default Transmission tuning

I received this email back from edge on the trans tuning question:

We are working on an update that will have transmission tuning. When this update becomes available you will receive an email telling you to update the device.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Will we be able to update our current CTS with this feature or will we have to have all the custom tunes redone? Any thoughts?

THAT, is a valid question that only Bill can answer. It means work for him, to create a custom tune for the transmission. It was all included, of course, in tunes for pre-09 trucks.

I'm certain Bill will make it possible to reload your engine tune if a firmware update from Edge effects the transmission, and I would not expect a charge for that, but it IS an inconvenience (for both of you) that takes time out of each of your days. While I can guess how Bill might handle creating a "transmission tune", once Edge says he can, I won't.

But, at least Edge is saying they're "working on it". Between us chickens, they should have paid Bill a few bucks to have it done already.

If I sound unhappy with Edge, I am. I think they have a super resource in Bill that they are too cheap to make use of. And, this is only my opinion, which could be totally wrong. In fairness to Edge, they have business decisions to make that none of us know about. Their reasoning may be rock solid.

Default Transmission tuning

I agree with jack and janet. Edge should use Bill to get this trans programming moving. I don't understand the stall job. The maintaince program appears to be some marketing hot button, but they are missing on the real functionality we need in our trucks. "transmission control"

Ford is fixing trans shifting in 2011 with better gear selection and manual control thru the 6 gears. Us 2009 and 2010 f150 owners are out of luck if we need to holding our trans in gear rather than jumping into the two overdrives just when we don't want it to shift.

It would really be great to manually control 4th,5th and 6th gear. by controlling 1st, 2nd and 3rd low to mid range speeds can be handled. But crusing speeds are mostly out of the drivers control, and I hate that. Bills custom tow tune helps reduce some of the constant shifting from 5th to 6th, but a lot more could be done with a trans tune. if i could move the shift points up on 5th it would eliminate the dog shift to 6th then back to 5th when towing uphill.
