Default ABS light, no codes.

I will admit that I haven't done a search so forgive me if this has been discussed a hundred times before but my back is against the wall as we are leaving for vacation on Saturday.

Just received my CTS and installed a few days ago. My ABS light has been coming on intermittently for the last couple months and I thought I would be able to read a code with the CTS. I go in to diagnostics and read DTC's but it shows no trouble codes. Could the ABS light come on without setting a code or am I doing something wrong?

Obviously this issue won't keep us from leaving for our trip but I would rather be able to make the repair before we go if possible.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ive had a similar issue and found that all it was, was a blown fuse, so i suggest check all fuses that have anything to do with brakes and abs, hopefully that will be the only issue

You can also, looking at the age of your truck, have a corroded/bad connection in the ABS circuit, and that would be something that might give you an intermittent ABS light. The CTS won't read ALL codes, just ones relating to the engine and transmission I think.

Your brakes should still work, but the ABS function will be questionable? I'd bite the bullet and take the truck to someone who knows the ABS system if I were you, when you get back from the trip. (And try not to get "focused" on the ABS light when you're driving, there are more important things to look at!)

Thanks for the info. folks. I guess I was kinda thinking that the CTS would only read engine & tranny codes. If I get the time before we head out tomorrow I might pull the front tires and have a little look see but I'm not going to get to involved if I don't see something obvious.

J&J; Don't worry, I won't focus on the ABS light too much. It's family vacation, fishing, beaching, boating, Miller Lite time. Much more important things to occupy my mind & time.

FYI....these programmers wont read body codes either.....a seperate scan tool is required....for the abs there's alot of info on the web....when you first turn the key to on not run....count the number of blinks the light does....
