Regarding the new 09/10 f150 5.4......

I read on the F150online forum that the Edge Evo Cs causes pinging right out of the box, with the canned tunes installed in it. Has this problem been fixed yet?

Has anyone at PHP been able to complete a custom performance tune that will have zero problems?

I am yet to read any "good news" for the new 09/10 5.4 f150. Any hint of good, seems clouded with some significant grey areas.

In a perfect world, I want to open the box, adjust tire size, load tune, and drive it like I stole it.

Its the canned tunes that edge wrote causing the pinging.....they'll tell you to update the programmer if it happens....some of this tuning stuff is not plug and play especially on newer vehicles....

I too am getting some pinging. I heard it first today running the economy level with 87 octane in the tank. I have no other mods.

I thought that my programmer was updated when i installed Fusion and updated the programmer? Why would pinging still occur?

I bought my programmer dirctly from PHP. Is it PHPs recommendation to immediately purchase custom tunes to avoid pinging or contact Edge to troubleshoot?

I'm not trying to harsh on PHP, i just want a programmer that works and doesnt screw up my $45,000 pickup truck.

PHP has nothing to do with the canned tunes youll need to contact edge and tell them...

Although its not carved in stone that custom tunes MUST be purchased also...i highly recomend them being way better than the canned tunes...

Ampin - I'd try reducing the timing a bit if you're getting pinging. It might not have to be much, maybe 0.5 degrees or so. Try reloading your tune and go into the Custom Options menu when asked and set the timing to -0.5. If the pinging goes completely away, you could try readjusting it to -0.25, or, reduce it still more if the pinging is still present.

How do you even adjust the timing? I'm having the same problem myself when I create a custom tune all I have the options of are speed limiter, tire size, WOT fuel, rev limiter, idle speed. Nothing that helps!

Contact Edge.....they need to know what their programs are doing...

There's nothing in the "Custom Options Menu" about timing? I've never even looked for it on the CTS, because I found I couldn't improve on the timing when I was using my old monochrome Gryphon. If you don't have that option, forget what I said. This may be another "improvement" in the unit that I wish Edge had not done.
