Default 2009-2010 F150 Edge CS+CTS Canned Tune Pinging Problem

Any of you who have purchased a CS or CTS that are having pinging issues while the canned tune is being used need to put your truck back to stock and CONTACT EDGE!

Even though PHP has some involvement with this product they still do not have control over what programs Edge's engineers have written for your trucks. That's why its important for you the customer to tell Edge what's going on.

Yes, PHP can still write custom tunes for your vehicle and correct this but Edge still needs to know what's going on with their canned tunes.....

Take care

YES! Everyone that may be experiencing this problem needs too call edge! I have a case open with them as we speak. I have been dealing with them on this issue for about the last month. They told me they have not seen any other complaints about this pinging issue before me. Now I have a 2009 f150 5.4 with 6 speed. My pinging issue occurs only in levels 2 and 3 in the mid to upper rpm range. Stock and level 1 have no problems. Other than this I love the product. On a side note edge has been very willing to help out and get this fixed. Yes it is taking them a while, but I understand they are very busy especially this weekend. As of yesterday my case was still being worked on by the ford engineer and master technician. I was assured that they are working on it and that my issue is important and they want to take care of me. So bottom line is everyone with this problem NEEDS TO CALL. Hopefully it will get resolved. Thank you.

88 - great idea to start this thread.

I still think this is related to engine load. It would help if people having this condition could be very specific about when it happens. Engine load is one of the PIDs you can monitor, and it would be good to have values. And in addition to the specific gear when it happens, what exactly is the RPM range, i.e., 3000-5000 is more helpful than "mid to high".

Again, this kind of information is what Edge needs to diagnose what's going on.

Crispy09 - did you resolve your pinging issues with Edge? I had pinging using stock Edge tunes when i first started using the product. Received custom tunes from PHP and am still getting pinging. I have to admit I haven't contacted PHP about this pinging on the custom tunes, but I thought the custom tunes where supposed to resolve the stock tune pinging issues.

JackandJanet - thanks for the advice, but I have a tough time with having to put any effort into identifying an issue on a completely stock 5.4L f150. Shouldn't every tune for a completely stock 2010 f150 be the same?

At this point I've been running in stock since I purchased it months ago. It's turning out to be a very expensive gauge and I'm going to return it unless the pinging gets fixed. Nothing but frustration since I opened the box, which is unfortunate because I used an Edge programmer on my '06 Duramax and it was awesome.

Plan on calling PHP back and sounds like I need to contact Edge too. Can't wait to spend countless hours on the phone with tech support for a device that should essentially be plug and play!

2010 f150 pinging?

Not all the trucks come from the factory with the same tune, I believe that there are more than 700 different tunes, some based on features, others based on how bored the ford techs were that day just kidding... but yes, it sucks to have an expensive gauge, but definitely call Edge ASAP to get your problem resolved.

No Ampin. Unfortunately the issue has not been resolved. I have continued to call edge once a week to check up and all they are able to tell me is that the engineer is still working on it. I am hoping it is fixed soon. I'm like you I feel I didn't buy much more than a gauge. Although I am able to use level 1. I have not noticed any pinging whatsoever using it. Again edge says they are working it, but the engineer is very busy. My patience is wearing thin, but I just keep my cool. The techs we talk to have no say in what happens and they have all been helpful, kind, and considerate.

I contacted edge about the pinging at WOT an their solution to me was just add a fuel additive. I haven't noticed the motor pinging at any other point but at wide open.

I spoke to Cody this morning and he can make slight adjustments to my custom tunes that may address the pinging, so I'm feeling a little more optomistic today. Crispy09, if I recall you had canned tunes....might be worth it to talk to PHP about custom ones (they may be more responsive than Edge).

I did take JackandJanets advice though and tried to identify where the pinging started occuring. I found it's when the engine is at low RPM but a high load...in almost every gear. Cody knew exactly what I was talking about.

While I was running it through some trials on the way to work today I slammed the excelerator to the floor and when it tried drop into the passing gear everything started jerking on me. Cody mentioned Edge sent out a recent update that's playing havoc with their custom tunes, particularly on the 09-10 models. I think my rev limiter kicked in....at 4200 rpm, which just won't do.
