Help1 Getting New CTS

Hey Everyone,

This is my first post, and I am pretty excited to be getting a CTS. I have been searching the site and I can't seem to find the some answers since the search function addresses sooo many previous posts.

I have a 2008 Ford F150 Super-Crew 4x4 with the 5.4L engine. I put a flowmaster super 40 series muffler on it, but the exhaust is stock other than that.

1. On the CTS info page, it shows that the canned tunes include a "Tranny" tune, but I cant find where that is explained or what it does it only says "tranny."

2. I am looking at getting the 87 performance tune for my truck since I don't race and I never see the benefit of paying more for higher octane. Are there any stats for the HP gains for the 87 performance? Also are there any stats for the 91 performance. 93 octane isnt even offered in AZ.

3. I am looking at getting a K&N FIPK Cold Air intake for the truck. This shows the best HP gains. Is it beneficial, and will it affect my custom tunes and canned tunes if I have one?

4. Any suggestions on the tunes I should look into would be greatly appreciated. My main goal is mpg and HP gains, but this is a daily driver so I'm not going to go overboard on customizing it.

Thanks in advance to anyone that is willing to help me out.
Nate

Yes this would affect your tunes, but don't expect to get the gains that they say. research the Gotts mod, search this forum and you will find a large writeup, and I would recommend that. it is a lot cheaper ($20 is what it cost me) and you will see the same, if not better, performance.

4. Any suggestions on the tunes I should look into would be greatly appreciated. My main goal is mpg and HP gains, but this is a daily driver so I'm not going to go overboard on customizing it. just go with the 87 octane performance and if you tow get a tow tune as well.

Thanks in advance to anyone that is willing to help me out.

Default A few more questions?

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. As far as the tranny tune, do I need that? From what I am reading you have to switch between the tunes, so it doesn't really do anything for performance and driving at the same time correct?

The Gryphon CTS comes with an 87 tow tune "canned" do I need to buy a specific tune for the 87 tow because of the intake?

Great info on your reply, thanks. I am gonna research the article right now.

Thanks,
Nate

There is room for 4 tunes on a gryphon of any type, Stock and 3 others, I would recommend keeping one for the tranny, 1 tow, and 1 performance. That way with the tranny tune you can diagnose problems. If something is wrong with your truck then you can switch to the tranny tune to see if it is the tune messing up, or your truck, or a mixture of both.
