Default Failed COPS

I've had my Gryphon since early this year and Bill spent some time with me getting my truck up and running after an engine swap. Since then I've had 4 COPS fail on me. Could this be a tune issue? It hurts spending $45 every 2 months on the same issue and it's never the same COP. Can I adjust something to help the issue?

Put OEM plugs back in it.

Hard to see how a tune could effect a coil.

I imagine heat could be an issue - wonder if they run too hot in the re-worked environment? (I admit, I'm reaching on this.) Are the COPs OEM, or are they a different brand?

Were they ever changed before the engine swap?

If the plugs were not changed in regular intervals they can weaken the already weak coils.

The old motor's COP's were changed as needed (about one every year or so).

The new motor's COP's were changed after a month or so after I got it swapped. They were changed to new OEM's from old OEM's.

Like Jack said, tuning should not have any effect on the life expectancy of the coils.

If spark plugs were always changed when needed and coils were replaced with OEM's then the only reason for the failures would be normal wear.

I'm not an engine guru so thats why I'm asking you guys about this. I don't know if the problem was tune related or engine related. I thought my 4.6 was bad, but my 5.4 takes the cake with these COP's. I didn't know if running rich or lean could case the failures or what, I'm just trying not to spend $40 every other month on the same part.

Well, on the plus side you will have ALL new coils within the next month or so...................problem solved.

Seriously though, I dont quite understand why Ford has had so many problems with these coils. Back in the day they could use one coil for everything and a failure was almost non existent, now there is one for each cylinder and they fail all the time.
